I use Solidworks and highly recommend it. You might also look at Alibre which is a lower cost 3D CAD program. If you have NO experience at all, I highly suggest you take a community college class rather than trying to learn by yourself. You will progress much faster and minimize the frustration of learning by yourself.

F.Y.I Just picked up another copy of TurboCAD v10.2 off ebay for £7 - brand new in the shrink wrap - an absolute bargain of a 2d-3d package. Now I can design stuff at home and at work ;>
