This forum seems to have very little activity on it? I have always been fasinated with the "micros", I like the size. Seems to me the Hornet series of helis were the the first "high performance" micros on the market and it seems like now after the "WAVE" of Trex's and Eflite Blade CP's, the Hornets faded away.
Seems a shame that such an innovative line of Micros would kind of dissapear--- forgotten about almost. That being said I just got sent a X-3D kit by a RR member and I am going to give it a go. It seems sturdier than the Eflite CP's(i'm not bad-mouthing Eflite) I don't feel as though I need any help in peticular with this heli but I'll post some videos when its done. Maybe building this kit is not even worth the trouble but theres only one way to find out.

I have always liked the Hornet line. The first gen was a PITA to build properly but they seem to have that sorted out now. I have always known it to be a good performer and I have no doubts that a 3DX would smoke a BCP without much effort. Once it is properly tuned in that is...

I think the Hornets faded out because of two reasons. One is the very expensive parts, and the second is that they are hard to setup properly - especially the tail. I ended up going with the µHeli tail, because I couldn't get the stock tail right myself. Also, since you have to glue or tape the swash servos down with no guides as to where they go, it's a bear to get them just right so you don't have cyclic-pitch interactions.

I still fly my Hornet 2 sometimes, but it's kinda scary considering the cost of a crash. It does fly well though.

I agree it's over priced and a b!tch to fix after a crash. All that press fit assembly and super glue stuff is a pain in you know where. I like the size also but I may go for the hurricane 200. Has anyone with a hornet got a hurricane 200?

Hey Doug,

I'm glad to see their are still folks out there interested in the Hornet X-3D. It is one of the smaller micros that flys really well if built properly, but it can be a tedious bird to maintain and build even for the experienced.

Give her a go, and let me (us) know if you have any questions.

I've got a Hornet X3D & love it. I've Been flying it now for 2 years. I'm just starting to put together the Hurricane 200. Can't wait to get it airborne. The parts are impressive but very small.

Did you get this bird flying? My buddy brought one into the shop the other day. Beautiful machine. What are the flying characteristics? My buddy said its tough to fly.
Brad

There are no shortcuts in Helis. Just good hard work.

Easing the flying characteristics really comes down to proper setup. This will take a bit of trial and error.

Toolman18, I got it set up and flew it 5 times before CRASHIN the Livin hell out of it doing some low back flips Did Tons of damage , not sure if I'm gonna bother to rebuild it or not but I will say I had a little tail vibration that I couldn't get rid of but other than that it was extremely responsive and smooth
