Tools and Field Equipment > Anyone know how to get Mavrikk 239 starter shaft to fit on Dynatron starter?

I bought the Mavrikk 239 for my Dynatron starter, because of the following comment from:

http://www.heliproz.com/startshafts.html

"It will also clamp on to the output shaft of the sullivan starteres IF you drill the threads out."

I tapped (not drilled out) the mavrikk threads (using a 1/4" x #20 tap) and the mavrikk spun right down on the threads perfectly. But there were 3 problems:

1. The dynatron's shaft was about 3-4mm too long causing the removable 6mm shaft to seat improperly.
2. The threading is backwards, so that when i activate the starter it spins and unscrews itself from the mavrikk threads.
3. The 2 hex clamping screws on the mavrikk won't tighten enough to hold the extension to the starter's shaft.

If anyone has experience with getting these two to work together, i would welcome a practical fix.

Maybe the website comment meant sullivan starters other than the dynatron. I'm new to nitros and getting frustrated trying to get my Freya .90 in the air. Thank god for my trex 600e

Nvertd...Have you tried using a thin metal shim between the clamped portion of the starter and the Dynatron shaft? This method should make your starter work on the shaft.

I have that combo. I drilled all the way through the start mavrikk shaft and the motor shaft and but a bolt all the way through. I can't slip now. I also cut off the threaded portion of the starter shaft.

kglassman,

I haven't tried a shim. If i can find the right size that could work. I'll just have to make sure it goes all the way around, otherwise it may wobble.

thanks.

Mark,

I'm having trouble understanding how you drilled thru the motor shaft. Could you explain further?

Thanks,

Starter Shaft

I was having all the same problems, slipping on the shaft and spinning off. The Sullivan shaft is 1/4in and the Mavrikk is 6mm. The metric wands caused me alot of fustration. I tried to rethread the Mavrikk to 1/4 in but as said before the clamping device is to sloppy for a Sullivan starter shaft. I gave away my K&S and Mavrikk wands and bought a Sullivan S613 and it works great, all my problems trying to start my 90 went away. If your going to use a Sulivan starter just get their wand, and if your getting one like the hobbico or the Hangar 9 use the metric Mavrikk or K&S wand for these they work great and are cheaper.

Nvretd... I used a Vario starter shaft on my Sullivan Dynatron . I just drilled out the base portion of the Vario starter wand and taped it for 1/4x20 thread screwed it on and tightened down. Works well for me.

After trying the "easy" route to use shims failed, I took mlevings' advice and cut off 4mm of the starter shaft, drilled out the extension threads, slid the shaft onto the extension and drilled perpendicular thru them both. Now i just need a long 3mm hex screw to secure it all and i should be set.

This mess has really been an unbelievable pain

Thank you guys for sharing your solutions!
