Groan!!!!

Last year I spent 2,700 on heli stuff at the end of the year my wife brought me an itemized list of it all and who I spent it with.

That being said the King, bird only not batts ect I have 720.00 invested in However we went to Hawaii for vacation 11 years in a row (won't total the cost there) and this silly little hobby has brought me more joy and fun on a daily basis than any vacation ever did. So it is all relative.

You can spend 50.00 on a nice dinner and that turns to Crp if I crash,
50.00 in parts turn to crp I crash less than I eat so helis are a bargin.

Not counting broken parts replacements, and stuff I already had:

King 2 RTF: $140 (used)
300HDX4200kv: $18
Dynam 30 ESC: $30
3 Align 9X servos: $54
Telebee: $40 (used)
JR S185 servo: $20
Batman tail blades: $4
Purple swash: $20
Purple washout: $22
Xtreme turnbuckles: $8
Used SuperSkids©: $15
HDX FRP blades: $15
Esky carbon blades: $0 (Christmas present from an appreciative heli-apprentice)
Satisfaction of flying a bird worth at least twice as much in enjoyment: priceless

Total as it sits: $386

Already had the HobbyWing UBEC, 2 extra 1000mah/10C's, charger, blinkys, MX400 fins, and TRIX tail holder and spindles.

The MX cost more than this before it ever left the ground. I shudder to think what the Dragonus I was looking at would have taken to fly.

The total I have spent on heli stuff in the year I've been an addict is too painful to add up.

The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.

"Wife Receipts" at the hobby shop I haven't heard that one before I am forever trying to maximize the FUN with the smallest amount of money, it ain't easy and it angers the "Heli-Gods" If you try to go too cheap they will throw lightning down on your heli just to make sure payments are made.
But like Gary said, its all relative. Any hobby or sport is going to cost monies. Whatever floats your boat,if it gives you joy, it's Good. My wife likes buying clothes and shoes and I like things that fly in the sky and we don't look at each others receipts HeliDirect reciepts are immediately destroyed anyway The only reason she keeps her receipts is so she can return half the stuff later. I don't even want to know what I spent in the last 10 years on "flying stuff" it would take the FUN out of it !

Motorcycles are a blast to ride. Even the slower ones are many times faster than almost any car, and that power is intoxicating. Of course those who ride HDs don't have a lot of power to play with but they are shinny and the chicks like them ... rumble rumble

When I got into the hobby again I spent $5000. The first year and my wife had an entire print out of my expenses. I told her I would take up drinking and chasing women to keep the cost of my hobbies down. She stopped keeping track of my habit, I mean hobby, after that and I can spend what I want too with in reason...
It's the lesser of the 2 evils I guess...
Somethings your better off not knowing.....

Tom..... No "D" flying....

There only $5000?

You could buy a real helicopter for that price!!!

But cars are like $20K, so motorcycles, and real heli's are cheaper...but I dont think its legal to fly a heli to work...or im my case, school.

my bike cost me $14,000 AU preloved, the previous owner only put 6,000km on it in 18 months, kept it in his lounge room, never rode at night or in the rain, cost him $20,500. I ride the wheels off it, all weather anytime it is my only form of transport but I do live in paradise
