Planning to go!

I got some "unscheduled" business to do in Virginia on Thursday that week so I'll be at the field on Friday to turn some rotors and at the Funfly on Saturday! Probably will do some nightflying Friday night. Sunday is usually my day to drive home, so I'll probably leave as early as Saturday night and drive a little ways to take away some of the distance needed to get home on Sunday.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there!!

Count me in as well I should have my prototype EXTREMEDRIVE done by then and I will have it on display for all Miniature Aircraft owners to check out and get feedback on. Any recommendations on hotels in the area?

Reposted, again, since it got lost!!
From Brent--------

got a price back for the Holiday Inn Express that a friend manages - and it was $120 a night for the event (reg $135)... Seemed high so I started calling around - and looking on the Net - and here is what I have come up with.

The least expensive rooms are at Americas Best Value - in Cambridge, MD. I called - and then looked on the Net - and it is cheaper to book over the Net. This place is also the lowest rated in town, on hotels.com (2.6 guest rating). The rates on the Net are $54.95 for a single queen, and $59.95 for a double queen - and AAA also gets you a discount off of that. The rates they quoted me on the phone were about $15 higher, and no group rate available - so book this one on the Net if you choose it.
Here is the URL:
http://www.americasbestvalueinn.com/bestv.cfm?idp=528

The next would be Days Inn in Cambridge (4.0 out of 5 - guest rating on hotels.com)

http://www.daysinn.com/DaysInn/cont...79&brandInfo=DI

I have a call into the Manager, to see if we can get a group rate. The manager on duty told me she thought we could, but the main manager won't be back until next Tue morning... to call me back.

They are $79 for a single queen, and $89 for double queen beds.

She thought she we would get about 10% off - so that brings it to about $71 or so for a single, and $80 or so for a double.

I will let you know next Tue what we end up with for the Days Inn.

Thanks- Brent

Thanks Bill !!

We were able to score a group rate of $75 a night @ the Days Inn (double queens)

Mention "HeliFun" if you call them. The number and details are on http://helifun.org

Kyle - looking forward to meeting you!! What is an EXTREMEDRIVE... sounds interesting. How cool it will be seen for the first time here
Should be a good place for feedback... sounds like quite a few MA pilots are attending.

Raja - come on... looking forward to meeting you, and to seeing those Gassers. Will you be night flying one of those?

Extremedrive

It's my version of the Synergy N9 HYPERDRIVE oneway bearing setup for the torque tube from Hyperformance R/C. I just took the idea and designed one to work in the Fury Extreme and Stratus.

Update on Lots of Stuff

Hi Everyone,

Lots to get you up to date on!

Had the Club meeting... and I wish you could feel the excitement building on having everyone here!! It is very cool... the huge enthusiasm this event is generating in the Club!!

Camping - Go For It!! Space has been set aside for those that want to Camp onsite. If you want to also setup a canopy/ compound, chairs, etc. - there is plenty of room for it. See the website for details (http://helifun.org)

Night Flying - I think we all kind of suspected we would night fly anyways... but the club has officially signed off on it.

Sponsors/ Raffle Prizes - this weekend... 4 more Sponsors are going to be added to the website & the initial post of this thread.

Will brought Middle River Hobbies on board for a $50 gift certificate (Thanks again Will !!)

Quick UK is sending $200 worth of gift certificates, that can be used on their website.

Tower Hobbies is sending gift certificates and some merchandize (not sure how much and what yet... waiting for that email back)

Air Thunder Batteries is sending out some LiPo Packs. We are still sorting out what sizes they will be... and I will let you know when I do.

Got it through - we are going to organize and reserve the best parking spots behind the Pits... for the Pilots. Spectators will be parked in a different spot during the event

That's all for now.

Thanks - Brent

Brent

Sounds great! Hopefully the area is large enough so I don't get caught "dominating the skies" with the gassers as on my last funfly event in Tampa area, FL! -- From Tracvision:

"TBHC attendance

You guys missed a great event. It wasnt a large one this year as the weather was quite windy until Sunday. RAJA dominated the practice field with his jewel generator equipped Xcell gassers. I think he flew 18 flights at 15-20 minutes each. Raja probably gets more flight time in a weekend than I get in a month.

I know Erich puts his heart and soul into this event. I'm sure we'll see you guys next year, if not sooner.

Harold"

As far as night flying, I have my trex-450 setup for that as I fly it down the street from my house at 10pm when the wind dies down. Couldn't imagine how noisy a gasser would be in the dead still of the night!!

Can't wait, and see you guys soon!

How many times last year did you get to see me wreak that trex trying new stuff. 4? 5?
Like tail-in hovering? I didn't count

If we weren't friends, and I didn't know you better - I would swear you were being an AS* - rather than trying to be funny.

I am glad you think of me as a friend and yes I was just being funny... This hobby is great for all the good friends we make and riding each other just makes it better... its all good.

It's about time you posted in here - where have you been?

Just been busy but I'm back now

Anyways - Jeff - don't let him fool you - he loves that Freya... and is so careful and afraid of wreaking it - that he won't even let me fly it (probably for good reason).
I'll speak for myself and Jeff knows he can fly anything I have anytime.

Here's the post I was ranting about

My Posts This: Topic Forum
I used to fly thumbs... but this winter I focused on pinch, on the sim... and now I like it better. If I need to move cyclic faster and farther for some reason (going to crash)... I find myself using my pointer finger on top of the stick... like I used to do with the thumb.

I watch the blades mostly (especially when inverted)... and then the whole heli.

Thanks for the tip of doing a piro... when trying to determine oriantation when it way out there.. That makes sense... and I will be using that.

I am going to try the tip of watching the far side, right side up - and the near side, when inverted. That sounds like a good idea also... going to try that, we will see.

Now I know your much better at flying helis then me, I only have about 2 or 3 gallons of flying helis and that's why I hope you'll show me some of your inverted flying at the fly-in on May 17th. see ya there

Your buddy

Geez Onespeed... I mean Manny (back at you )

OK - time to clear the air of what is bugging you:
Jeff - Byron is just fine with you flying the Freya. Actually, I think he would be "honored" if you did - and if you don't... you are going to hurt his feelings (better Byron... Now can I fly it?)

I was talking about inverted on the Sim there... I actually can fly inverted pretty well - on... the... Sim. Now that the weather is breaking and I can get the helis back out - I should be able to pull it off by the funfly - so get your spectacles cleaned, and your bug eyes out.

Whew

Hey Brent

I'm so glad you understand that I was just messing with you and please understand, I only mess with people I like!!!

I don't think I'll be doing any inverted flying for another year or so. Go ahead and call me chicken but with only about 20 loops, alittle figure 8 FF but no rolls or anything else I gotta say... I find it hard to keep my knees from shaking when I do anything other then tail-in hover.

and when I did the few loops it took me about a week to fart afterwards because my backside was soooo tight.

Anyway, the fun-fly looks like its going to be a great event, Thanks to a lot of people like you Brent. Anyone that reads this post can tell you have put a lot of time into making this fun-fly what it is. And as a member of ESAC and a heli nut, I want to say thanks.

Oh, and one more thing

Ok Brent

You can fly the Freya if...

#1 We use your credit card for anything that happens from start-up to shut-down. (= $)

#2 You help with any repairs that may be needed. (= time)

Sounds fair to me, what do you think?
