Got a real dilemma here. Wondering what you guys think. I have a sizeable tax bill, but at the same time I NEED king parts. What to do. I only have so many dollars. Should I buy parts or pay my taxes. Hmmmmmm, really having to ponder this tough one. What would you suggest?

Don't mess with the IRS. They will come take your heli and sell it to pay your tax bill.

Get a quarter.
Fling the quarter in the air.
Heads pay Gov, tails buy parts.

Easy as that.

Some great ideas. Just got through flying the heli and managed to shear the head bolt! Who's ever heard of such? Powerful 3800kv motor turning against the cold hard ground I guess did it. So nice to be grounded due to a 10cent bolt I don't have......Guess I'll be buying parts instead of TAXes this year.

Find a law that says you have to pay taxes? Its become a known unknown lawyers have tried there is no clear law stating such. Taxation is why our English ancestors left Mother England.

Sarge, Happy V-D or V-Day I should say You sheard off a main blade grip bolt ??? This is weird ??? A month ago I sent "Jerry in Maine" a set of blade Bolts. Then he offers to send me a set of "make your own CNC machine" plans. I say great Jerry sends me the plans( Jerry is the Greatest" by the way. Now you need the main blades bolts that Jerry sent to me to replace the ones I sent him which I don't need. ( Am I sounding like DAR ) If you still need the main blade bolts that Jerry sent me, I will send them to YOU Sargie PM me your address and they go out tomorrow !

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!! UH OH, I gotta get to town before momma comes home!

Naw, I sheared the smaller headbolt thats just below the feathering shaft. This is the through bolt that holds the head to the shaft. So I had to shear it in two places! Thanks for your kind offer though just the same.

How did I do it? By running a CNC extreme feathering shaft and extreme plastic blades, thats how. Something had to give!

Do you know what the difference between a regular Esky feathering shaft and a CNC hardened shaft is? It takes longer to straighten the hardened one.

The best way I have come up with to straighen a feathering shaft is on a small anvil and a small brass hammer. Always keep the threads off the anvil. Just keep tapping the highside down and before you know it, no deflection.

try heating it to a red glow, oxy / acetalene , straighten and place immediately into cold water, you're gonna anneal the metal then cold harden after, should work out

this is gonna sound like a smartass ? but I am interested in the answer as I am not a metal worker but I play one in my mancave.

help me understand please I always used a v-notched hobby vice but I finally dont bend them much anymore so I just keep a spare handy.

If you heat it and anneal it then cool it.
1: doesnt heating ruin the hardening done prior?
2: annealing isn't that stretching the shaft?TEHEHE
3:does cooling instantly bring it back to size?

If you heat and then anneal it then it will be in its softest state.

If its hardened and you heat to a good red it (naturalized state, non magnetic), the hardening will likely be lost. By quickly quenching it in cold water that will likely harden it again but how much?

The original feathershafts do not appear hardened to me anyway.

The Extreme shaft does seem a little harder but it will bend instead of breaking.

The brass hammer method mentioned works real well and takes no time.
Heat is certainly an option but I like doing a little tap tap tap.

annealing is to make metal soft, it does not stretch it unless pulling pressure is applied, as for the heating, yes you are changing the temper, but quenching it rapidly will give it a specified temper.

I am still somewhat confused let me throw out my understanding of the annealing process.

First you heat the metal which will make it expand as thats what heat does, then its soft enough for you to tap back into size which is stretching in the direction your tapping ever so slightly. Then If you cool it quickly are you saying it contracts back to regular size only straight? I was pretty sure you would loose some temper on a hardened shaft.

When I would straighten the BCPP spindles by muscle in a vice they stretch and cause slop in the head and I would have too add shims. Im thinking annealing or any type of straightening on the stock King shaft would do the same thing? It would work great to get back in the air but would still end up replacing it in the end.

After this Im gonna ask the difference between hot and cold rolled steel.

If you take a shaft and heat to the point its no longer magnetic, then bury it in a bucket of ashes and let it cool very slowly then it will be annealed.

Yes, if you straighten a shaft then it will be slightly longer but there are alot of threads on the King feathering shaft. Anytime you bend and straighten a shaft those molecules have to go somewhere. Its not a one way street however. You can get the steel to shrink with heat and localized quenching.

The difference as I understand it in those two steels:

Hot rolled is just that, shapes that have only been hot rolled. Usually slightly oversized too.

Cold rolled is steel that has been hot rolled and then additionally cold rolled. This does a few things. Closer tolerances, some surface hardening, some rust resistance, and increased toughness I suspect are a few of those things.
