I bought a quarter inch drive 12mm socket and it worked perfect for me. Try that.

Actually found one at Sears, wasnt a craftman, but looked at a TON I mean a TON of sets etc and open up them and tried about I feel like 200 before I found a fit. Kinda silly they make you use such a thin wall socket on the fan, but I guess MA had there reason..sigh

If you dont succeed the first time, try and try again. With heli's keep on trying!
