Henseleit 3DNT - Rocket - 3DMP > Severe Glitching

I have finally flown my Rappy enough to build up courage to fly my 3DNT. Initial flights had a severe glitching problem. A bench check showed it was coming from the battery cable coming back to the receiver. I moved the battery to the back, to a position under the receiver, and bench check was OK. Flew it today and more glitching. Not as often but it's still there. Further bench checks seemed to show the glitching but it is difficult to duplicate on the bench.

I am not using a switch so that is not it.

This is the early model without the rollers on the belt.

I have run ground straps from everything made of composite and they all show a good bond. (A dead short when checked with a meter.)

I am using a Multiplex Rx that has IPD which accomplishes what PCM does but it is not exactly the same. I did not set up fail safe so I could see any glitches. Unfortunately, I saw some.

I have considered using a shielded pair on the battery cable and grounding the shield to the composit frame. Any of you electrical guys have any thoughts on that? Any ideas would be helpful.

Thank you - Sam

My suggestion would be to SEND your radio back to the factory. Don't endanger your life or the 3D NT with a glitchy system. You should not have any problems with a glo powered heli regardless of who made it.

Squirrel,

That is easily done. The fellow who reparis the radios happens to be a friend who lives about 90 miles from me. The problem is I do not have any of this going on with the Rappy. It's only with the 3DNT.

I don't know if this will help, try stipping your battery or make a stress check. I found though experiance that my battery connector had a hairline crack thus making my heli glictch till I lost all power and crashed It might be a sorce of your problem.

I had range problems with mine, and tracked it down to the run of the aerial. Try to get it as clear of the carbon fibre frames as you can. The CF seems to do a great job of shielding the signal. My range is now over three times what it was in a ground check, just by doing this.

Carps could be right too. I'd check on the arial make sure its not touching the carbon fiber area, strong posibility

hey sam

i don't know if you fly with a gy601

this could also be the cause, read the posts in the radio gyro forum about gy601 and the 3DNT

Helifever...

I just did a search for GY601 and 3DNT and couldn't find anything related to this topic

Can you post a link to the topic ?

Thanks

Helifever,

I am using a 601. I can't find what you are directing me to. Please try it again. When it does glitch it drives the tail nuts. Sometimes the other servos move but usually it's the tail.

Thank you - Sam

Hi

FWIW I have the original kit, battery up at the front, and have never suffered from any glitching problems at all - no earth bonding whatsoever (apart from the 'roughing up' of the boom when that little ball bearing sits.

I would try an alternative battery pack, and yep - check that arial.

Richard.

Thanks Helifever. I thought it was going to be something more sinister

I posted to that link - my problem has not recurred since rerouting the aerial.

Helifever,

I found that my Futaba 601 Gyro would not stay in the "Heading Hold" mode. It would switch to the "Normal" mode and then immediately back to the "Heading Hold" mode. When it switches to "Normal" mode the TR blades changed pitch and the tail swings violently for about 90 degrees then stop. Please note I have the TR baldes set at 0 degrees pitch in the "Heading Hold" mode when it is on the bench. If I had them set to 8 degrees the swing would probably be less violent.

I am not sure if it is the gyro or the radio. I suspect it is something in the gyro system but those that I know don't use 601 gyros so I have been unable to check it out. The radio is a Multiplex Profi 4000 and few heli guys use Mulitplex radios. I do not feel it is the radio because it works perfectly with a Futaba 401 Gyro set to "Heading Hold".
