1660g is 3lbs, 10.55oz!! Whoops.........
Your 505 should be perfect flyable at its weight.
Are you going to play it safe and install some sort of training landing gear? It's really not needed, what is important is you let the main rotor spin up to something over half its RPM and then without hesitation, lift the heli off the ground. If you try to make sure it is perfect level and gently let it go light on the skids, you're risking a tip-over that can't easily be stopped once it starts to fall over. Watch my video again and get a feel for the speed of the main rotor and then how quickly I throttle-up to lift off.
I have some (unedited) video showing the consequences of a slow and timid take-off. I believe the 505 fell over three or more times that day. Do you remember the shake and vibration visible in my video? That's the end result of those tip-overs - I never bothered to rebuild the main rotor and get it back to perfect balance.
Good luck, have fun, watch the running time carefully and remember to post some video for us to see!
