OMG!!!

I can't believe my math calculation of weight was allowed to pass uncorrected!!!

1660g is 3lbs, 10.55oz!! Whoops.........

Your 505 should be perfect flyable at its weight.

Are you going to play it safe and install some sort of training landing gear? It's really not needed, what is important is you let the main rotor spin up to something over half its RPM and then without hesitation, lift the heli off the ground. If you try to make sure it is perfect level and gently let it go light on the skids, you're risking a tip-over that can't easily be stopped once it starts to fall over. Watch my video again and get a feel for the speed of the main rotor and then how quickly I throttle-up to lift off.

I have some (unedited) video showing the consequences of a slow and timid take-off. I believe the 505 fell over three or more times that day. Do you remember the shake and vibration visible in my video? That's the end result of those tip-overs - I never bothered to rebuild the main rotor and get it back to perfect balance.

Good luck, have fun, watch the running time carefully and remember to post some video for us to see!

Dubro 505

Heli_headcase.My 505 weighs now 3lbs 15 oz (1763 grm). My question is: Do you think it is better to add weight until reach 5 lbs 10.55 oz (2560 grams) like your helicopter weight ?I´m agree with you that more weight more speed rotor and therefore easier to fly. Is it not true?.I have an special trainer landing gear to use on my first flight. When I tried to fly the 505 some years agó,it was very difficult because I was trying to accelerate slowly like a common helicopter. I´m agree is better to raise it rapidly to take command in the rotor .Thanks so much Sherpa

Please reread my last post...

Hi sherpa,

I corrected my calculated weight error. Didn't you notice? Leave your 505's weight alone, it's close to perfect. Now go fly!

Any news?

Hi sherpa,

Two weeks have gone by since our last posts here. Have you had any opportunities to fly your 505? Please let us know.

Dubro 505

Sorry Heli Headcase, but I have not been able to fly the 505 due to windy weather during these weeks.I have been flying my Graupner Bell 212 and I used to continue with the restoration of my Kavan Jet Ranger.I´ll inform you as soon as I fly it

I understand...

If you are experiencing windy weather, you are smart by delaying tests. The 212 is a much better machine under such conditions.

Your Graupner is beautiful! Mine will never look that good.

What are you using for replacement plastic ball links?

Replacement links...

OK, just wanted be be sure the original links were not in service. Even new, they looked weak.

I have a small quantity of the robbe links, very high quality but not easily found here in the States. I'll probably use Kyosho links meant for M2 threads as they look "the part", are good and I still have many from my Kyosho days. Thanks.
