Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Tuned Pipe on Gassers any feedback?

Well Ive tried everything today, and still it runs like snot in a can with this new header
I tried lean, rich and combinations. It was never happy at any rpm.
As a last resort Im trying to get a Walbro 813 like Shiro mentioned.
I have an event Im going to about 3500km away next week, so the rush is on to get her singing again.
It ran great with the other longer header I had b4, but now it just constantly surges rpm, or foams the tank badly.
I went from 1 1/4 up to 1 1/2 on both needles, with no success.
Sigh, sometimes I wonder if this hobby is worth the time and effort, not to mention the cash

I hate to say I told you so

Even though tuned pipes gave more power, I was never happy with the way they ran. Also personally I never liked that huge exhaust spanning half the tailboom looks wise.

I think you'd be flying more and fiddling less with a torpedo muffler.

Gorn: sad to hear that. check your manifold for some air leak and try 813 carb. I got no problem with my pipe.

I agree that Id be flying more with a regular pipe, but Im determined to make this work. Its not impossible, just hard right now.

Shiro
I was also thinking perhaps an air leak, so Im checking that out. Definately getting that carb to try as well.

hmm

Why dont you try the normal hanson header? IS it too close to the heli or wrong side?? I have a header you could try. Send me your email and I will send a pic of it.

I really dont think the pipe is as bad as some have made it out to be. Its the only way I am still flying a gasser if that tells you anything.

I used high temp rtv on the bolts and the gasket to reinforce a seal.

Dr Fibinotchi
Thanks very much for the offer, but the stock Hanson header is on the wrong side.
I already have one here.
I have high temp copper gasket sealant, I'll use some of that.

I picked up a Walbro 813 today, so testing when I get time over the weekend. Fingers crossed

Well I ried the new carb after work yesterday, and to say I was very disappointed is an understatement. It was the worst Ive seen a heli behave on the ground, dancing on its skids, and trying to shake itself apart.....

On to today
After a PM from my friend Shiro, I tried some new settings.
1st hover, close
Tweek tweek, 2nd hover, better
Tweek tweek, 3rd hover Yesssiiirrr, we have arrived
No idea on HS, had to bring my curves down to suit the new needle settings (I had tried that already with my other settings just in case), no'one is going to hold a tacho for me hovering in my backyard
I know I know, danger danger, but my usual test patch is under water, lots of rain.
So as of now, Im going to clean out my entire fuel system with Metholated Spirits (white spirits/ denatured alcohol) and wipe the entire heli down in preparation for my trip to the east coast for the Coffs Harbour Helifest.

Lyle, if you read this, should be 5 mins of fine tuning with you guys and we'll be cruisin

Thanks heaps Shiro, always helpful, I truly appreciate your help and advice through my Maxum gasser experience so far

hehe

Now we want a Video to see all of this work in effect.. I wan to see some tick tocks!!!!

No really I want to see either of your maxums on the tuned pipe doing anything hard. I tire of you tube videos or other with a hover master at the helm.

I have not even had my Maxum inverted yet lol. However, Im very keen to do it soon, if not at the event Im going to.
We'll see, but Im hoping to get some video of my Maxum in action.
One of the crew Im going with is taking a HD camcorder, so shouldnt be a problem.
Ive tic toc'd my 450, but the Maxum is a LOT of money lol, the pucker factor is very high.....must...stay...strong.....tic...toc yeahhhh lol

hehe

I just sold my 450. Its perfect for a park flier, but not for me. Actually its harder to tick tock a trex than a gasser to make it look good so no worries.

I just got a HD camcorder as well a couple months when the little one came into the world. They are fun.

Give us some Curtis circles on the deck then at near full collective..

also

You have a better fan than the one I had on my min air. You should be a little cooler as well on the temps. I would be curious your temps after a hard flight. I have been learning much on these fans latelly.
