no black box, that's for sure, but I'd bet money any electronics tech, will know what a burnt servo looks like when exposed to high voltage...I think Horizon is gearing up for something. Some kind of release about unregulated power system with li-po.

I'm just being skeptical. Honestly, I don't know, I'm no electronics wizard!

Point of my post was to inform, that's it. On my heli, I won't be running straight li-po until the manufacturer gives the go ahead.

no, I don't really have the skill for that

I was hoping to get a JR rep, or Horizon Employee to comment on this thread. I really thought they would be concerned about this contradictory information.

AirWolf.......What do you see as the advantages of running an 2sA123 RX system? I see, 1000's of cycles, No fire, Fast charging and $$ as the primary advantages, but how many flights on a 50 w/ 4x 9252s, 401 w/9254? Could you run that thru an Arizona Reg? I ask because Im building an 10sA123 system for my raven conversion (Tango 45-10 or (08), CC HV85) and am considering the RX power options. I like the Arizona reg BUT it specs only Lipo 7.4 power.........Comments Plez

I can tell why I like it

10 minute charge time when you are on the way to the car and remember that you forgot to charge the battery.

(it works with the arizona perfectly)

FBoss, a question, are you trying to use a main pack, 10S for the motor, and a second 2S pack for the electronics ?

If so, you should be fine. The A123 cells have a lower voltage than LiPo and thus put a lesser demand on the regulator.

If not, use a capable (amps) switching regulator off the 10S pack and call it done.

The only down side of the A123 cells is they are heavier than LiPo and come in only a few sizes . . . . for now.

I was thinking of a seperate RX pack to give all the power from the 10s to the motor and in some ways a less complex system, though that is debatable.

So yes, Rx on a 2sa123. Making 10s out of dewalt packs. Think the 2s is a waste of time and weight?

FBoss, in the end, of course, it's up to you if you want a separate pack for the electronics or not.

If you do, any of the many regulators available for a 2S pack will work fine and a 2S 2300 A123 pack will give about 5 to 7 flights and you will still have to charge your 10S pack after every flight or two.

If you do not use a separate pack for the electronics, your regulator will be different, you will not have a separate 2S pack to charge and that's about it.

JR (the manufacturer) and not Horizon (the distributor) quite categorically states that the servos where designed to work on 4.8V 4 cell NiCads. They do have a couple that were designed for 6V but these are typically for the RC car market.

JRradios.com lists the 8717 ok for 6v (5 cell nicad?)...
