I have a small problem with my Voyager 50, it has a wag in the tail now?
I started her up yesterday after almost a month on the bench and she has developed a wag. I have a stock Voyager 50 CCPM with a webra 52 AAR and 620mm stock wood blades. I have double checked everything from blade blanacing and tracking to clutch assembly and belt tension, but everything seems to be in order. I also have a CSM 400 fitted and have checked that over as well. When I put her in heading hold the wag goes away the minute I take her off heading hold it starts again. Has anyone had a similar or same problem like me? I would love to know what the problem was and how you cured it. She is a really nice bird to fly (when she is flyable) very very stable and good looking as well. I just want to get her in the sky again where she belongs.

Thanks

Sounds like you have too much gyro gain in the normal mode.

Mmmm, I think your right. I'll have to double check that.

Lowering the gain has made an improvement, I am still getting a slight wag now and again but I think it's my training undercarriage. I am going to remove it and see if the wags have gone.

Could be, you didn't mention the trainer gear in the first post. Tends to create all sorts of problems, as son as you can lift off, hover for a few minutes and set it down without skating around sideways, dump the trainers.

I was off the trainers for a month or so till I ditched my rappy, now I cant imagine my helis without them. I know I am going to have to take them off soon but I thought I would be the first to do full 3D with traing gear (only joking)

If my O.S. 50 is too rich, I have the same problem. Leaned her out to run around 223 Degrees, and tail is fine .

Hi

I have the same problem with my Ergo 50ccpm and CSM 560. Have tried everything. (At gain 40 and 1600 rpm it works, but if I increase the gain or increase the rpm to 1700 the wag is there) According to CSM's homepage this COULD be due to the single boom support. If I hold the body and try to move the tail side to side it flexes pretty easily. I'm gonna try to upgrade to dual tail supports. Hope this gonna solve it.

I would be interested to know if this works as I still have a slight wag.

Hi Tompa, I've just put a CSM 400 in my Ergo 50 CCPM and also have a tail wag until the gain is down to 40%. Interesting idea about the boom support, I will look into that. Nice heli, though, very smooth.

Hi FinnDave

The pictures in your homepage show dual tail boom supports. Are you not still using them? (If not, please send them to me ) If you are, I guess this ain't the solution. At least not the sole one.

CSM says that a "sloppy" tail boom and a fast servo can cause the wag. (I'm using JR DS8455) They also advice to extend the servo arm to 20mm. I started out with 15mm, extended it to about 17.5mm. If I make it any longer the push rod will not move freely due to the construction of the helli. (I have the servo in its original position, up front.) However this small extension made a great improvement, so if you can, try using a 20mm servoarm.

The original tail slide plastic ball and pitch control lever also has a "built in" slop from the beginning. If I try to twist the tail blades I can feel that they just are moving a bit, without the lever moving. My guess is that this also is a possible reason for wag with a fast gyro/servo.

I'm still gonna try the dual tail boom supports, if this don't fix it I'm not sure what to do. But I probably will move the servo to tail and extend the servo arm. Or maybe change the pitch slide/lever.

From what I heard from others using this gyro/servo combo you should be able to have a gain of at least 80%.

Please let me know if anyone have a solution that I haven't thought about.

Tail Wag

Guys,
another possibility is that the tail pushrod guides and tail pitch slider are dry.
Try a little lubrication an see how it goes.

Tail Wag on V50

I am running an OS50, MP1 combo on my V50. I run MAH 600 mains and MAH 95 tail blades. With this setup I was trying all different gyro gains trying to make the wag go away. The harder I pushed it the more it wanted to wag. I found the single boom support was not enough and my tail boom was getting loose during flight. I put on a dual boom support and my problems have gone away. Of course make sure all linkages are silky-smooth and your engine is tunned.
