e-MS Composit Hornet > X3D Tail Rotor Shaft Insertion

I'm having a bit of trouble driving the tail rotor shaft through the pinion gear and bearing. I've tried twice now and the L0361 bearing, when the shaft insertion is complete, appears damaged. There is severe drag and roughness in the bearing. Quite a bit of force is necessary to get the shaft through the pinion gear. I've tried taping it through with a plastic hammer, and I've used a press tool specially made to drive the Hornet tail rotor shaft. I'm gonna need to order new bearings. When I get one in (and several extras) I'd like to try again. My techniques aren't working. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I don't think you're damaging the bearing during assembly - I think the shaft and gear is expanding the inner race of the bearing causing the roughness
I think if you remove the bearing you'll find it to be just fine then put it back on it'll feel rough again as it's just the tightness of the fit distorting the bearing

Maybe file the gear down a hair so it's not such a tight fit in the bearing
Then you might need to thin CA or penetrating thread-lock the gear to the shaft to prevent it from slipping in the absence of some of that pressure that helped grip it before

Good thinking...I'll give that a try tonight. I was getting a bit discouraged with the tail assembly. Thanks!

BTW - It might assemble easier if you press the gear onto the shaft then the bearing onto the gear rather than press the gear and bearing onto the shaft together - But it may not matter after filing the gear down a hair
