Just my experience but I found Fedex overnight beat the crap out of my heli versus the airlines.

On the way to NYC I brought the heli on the plane but sent it home via fedex overnight so that I could visit a few friends and not cart the heli around the city.

I was shocked at the crumpled beat up box that arrives.

Here is a pic of a maxi joker packed up with an airfoil mount, 2 sets of blades, 2 tailbooms and the toolbox

Today, I was flying back from SF to NYC. The girl next to me was actually paying an extra seat for just her case of music instrument, similar size to a golf case and with seat belt strapped on. I think this would be ideal, if the project have the budget.

There is a lot of good ideas here with various cases.
Anyone other then ourselves do not care about our heli's and left in someone else's hands/airlines, they will get destroyed.
One thing about the airlines baggage handlers is that from my own experience of wrapping the case in the security wrap now being sold at the airports, (where it is wrapped in the plastic cling-on)is that the case is heavy and it is hard to find a hand-hold to pick it up.
You need to have the handle easy to find and sticking out and not folded flat.
If you make it easier for the baggage person to have a way to pick it up it definitely helps rather then the case being tossed onto a cart because they can't hold onto it.

I can't remember, can you buy insurance for checked luggage?

I was also thinking that we can't have lipos in our checked or carry on luggage.

You can buy usually up to 5,000 of insurance for checked baggage, you have to do some forcefull negotiations though as most of the airline reps dont know about it and have never done it before.

Oh and another tip, take a nice 8x10 photo of how the case is packed and stick it to the outside of the case. THis lets the TSA know that you are watching and not to F with your equipment too much. I also included a little brochure and explanation in the case for TSA in hopes that they dont poke and prod too much

Very good ideas.

I was also going to put on a Please Read Label:

"The following case is equipped with motion/impact/vibration detectors. You are being tested in the way you handle luggage.

Thank You and have a wonderful day."

Can you tell up how much would $5,000 insurance cost?

I think it is usually around 40 or 50 bucks per time you insure.

Nice bag Dino! That will hide the maxi well when it is in your car.

Cheers

You are welcome! finally i solved my problem for my bag. I give it to a factory who make bags, and add some cloth. Now my benzine fit inside. It is cheaper than flybarless upgrade!!
I"ll post some pictures soon
