Hey Guys,

Got my "Chinese special" 1500 Mah lipos in and guess what...MAJOR bummage! I pluged the first pack into my BC6 just to see where it stood on the charge of the cells, and they imediately sparked....yanked out the pack something isn't right here...took the pack to a safe area. Well d@amn, maybe they had a full charge on them shipeed (unlikely but just maybe). BTW hooked them up on the balance mode, and never got to see antyhing about the cells as smoke started immediately and I didn't want to burn the house down!!! Ok, let's hook the second pack to the ESC and just see if the have any charge on them at all...BAD NEWS!!!! SMOKE CITY!! Yanked them off and again to a safe area the pack went. I just tried to put a recently known good charged pack on and now the ESC doesn't work. Some of the smoke must have been from the ESC as well. I'm bummed BIG TIME!!! Bad enough the batteries are crap, but now I'm out a 30A ESC. Well, contacted the HK seller (not holding much hope getting them to do much), and just placed an order for a new ESC (same type 30A Dynamic). All I have to offer as far as advise here is if you go with the HK packs, I would DEFINATELY CHECK THEM OUT WITH A DVM prior to doing ANYTHING with them. I am guessing these were most likey either damaged in shipping, OR miswired/cross wired. I don't think I'll be doing the HK thing again myself.

Temporarily out of commision in Austin,

Man that is a bummer.

And I was about to order a pair today. I guess I will be buying some cheaper domestic batteries instead. I have been looking at the Mega Power 1350mAh 3S packs. I am sure many of you use them, are they any good?

I bought one of the 2100mah 15c mega power packs from a local dealer last weekend. I did a full cycle once with my charger, and it took 2080mah not bad I thought. I flew it for the first time with my king today. I had about a 7min flight, and I only put back around 1600mah. So far so good, and for the price if I get 50 clycles out of it I'm happy.

I guess it is what it is. Buying HK packs over the internet makes us akin to a "riverboat gambling man" as Mark Twain put it. I bought 2 myself and so far so good with a 1/2 doz. cycles.

Its definately a Gamble for sure. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. Ultimately you are better off with a name-brand high quality battery. I have five of the Hong Kong (fleabay batteries) and I really like them, no signs of puffin yet. For me , I'm forever trying to stay in this hobby as inexpensively as possible, somewhat successful but the "Heli-Gods" very often DEMAND that payments be made. I'm sorry for your loss J.C.

Last night I was screwing around with the heli and knocked one batt off the kitchen table. Scrunched the end of it that quick. Perviously I had slung it, crashed it, and who knows what else in the heli, no problem. Just sitting on the table and I manage to damage it.

dont want to sound like I'm hating...but buy cheap, buy twice.......My FMA batteries cost 47 dollars, not TOO TOO expensive(TP/FP batts are 80 dollars a batt)...but they have OVER 300 cycles on some of them and are STILL going strong........and they have been discharged way too low a few times, crashed many times...and still going.......when you buy cheap you get cheap...then pay twice for shipping,to get a marginal product.....how much are you actually saving??????

Im almost with you fender the FMA packs are the real deal First battery pack I ever had with real constant power. I will be buying more as money permits. But its always good to have some hong kong packs waiting in the case they are like the spare tire or donut in your car. Not as good as a real tire and you cant drive as long or as fast.

So If you dont understand my rant get good packs they are worth the money but if you cant afford 4 $50 packs Get one good one and have a couple HK laying around. Or the megapowers which are good quality and durable for the price 300 flights easy but just not the constant power of a good pack.

Fender your spoiled you were born with a silver lipo in your case.

But your absolutely right.

I am lucky that the under water camera we got to look at whats on the bottom, under our dock, came with a BIG 12v Gell Battery. Im so new here, and what I saw on Do-Not-Tube, im scared to death to charge them other that the middle of Wally-World, parkin-lot. Im sure we may be safe with a good pac. BUT,At what point in time dose a safe battery, become "A-Killer".........? It's like having a Red Head, in the family,( I Have 3 ) at what point do they turn on ya...........? 1. I need someone to send me links for Every-thing I need to know. 2. How to store them. 3. How to check them. 4.How to chg. with out burning the place down. I bought a Graupner-4, It looked like a good one, "Is It" ????5. Can you use the stock one? 6. Can I go back to the Nima Bats? This is getting way to scarry for me. I switched to all Air Thunder packs, and love them. They can be discharge til the heli won't fly anymore and come right back, no more puffing and you get 1/2 price replacement packs if they do puff... the price is fair too........

Tom..... No "D" flying....

Oh, T-Dar, your posts are certainly...something. Just like reading
Dickens, sometimes they hurt my head, but I always end up grinning at the end.

Speaking of "grinning at the end", you certainly are a cunning linguist.

On topic (WHAT?), I've actually had good luck with my Esky greenies. I constantly over-discharge the poor things, and they haven't puffed. They've lost a step or two, but all three have close to a hundred cycles on them.

The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.

Somewhere in HK right now.......... a cracking sound from the intercom system as the floor manager whips "OK, everybody change your labels from "FMA Direct" to "Ping Pong Super Batts" and run until dusk. Just before shift change go to "Thunder Power".

Thats right: Show me a picture of some Americans making some LIPO batts. Inquiring minds want to know.

I had looked at the FMA chargers but not the packs. So I took a look and they seem don't seem too expensive. The 1350mah 3s pack is only $39 or $11 more than a Mega Power pack and $10 cheaper than the 1320mah Thunder Power. I see they have a 60 day no questions asked guarantee also. I might have to buy one. Maybe I will also pick up a MP bat also. Then once I know I have some good stuff maybe I will roll the dice on some fleabay packs.

I agree. They're a bit heavier than comparable packs but for me, the advantages far outway the disadvantages.

HISTORY: FMA, Inc. is an organization that began serving modelers as far back as 1972. Fred Marks began to design his own radios in the 1960s. Fred and Tim Marks designed about 100 products manufactured under license and marketed by Ace R/C from 1972 to 1994. Many of those products are quite well known: the original Digital Commander; Silver Seven series radios; Digipace; AT 2000 charger; Pro panel; Abacus; Nautical Commander; Olympic 5&7, Olympic Gold and many more. Fred Marks has been a member of the AMA Frequency Committee since 1978 and was Chairman for several years. Fred wrote the AMA guidelines in 1986 that defined the performance of radios acceptable for operation with 50 channels having 20 kHz channel separation. Fred Marks received the distinguished Howard McEntee award for developing "1991" specifications to which all modern R/C receivers must be built. In the past six years, FMA Direct has become recognized for innovative products of the highest quality and caliber of performance. Most FMA Direct products are designed to use Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and for automated assembly here in the US. FMA Direct now has some 300 products in our catalog to serve our FMA Dealers and the model public. Good customer service is our hallmark with all accounts maintained and tracked via an outstanding accounting package. With over 30,000 customers and over half-million products in the field, the average daily return for service for the past four years is 1.8 packages per day for all customer requests (For refunds, warranty work, and repairs). This is an average yearly product return of .025% (25 100ths of one percent). FMA Direct has developed an excellent reputation for quality products since starting it’s own distribution business in 1996. In springtime, the rate of service requests can get up to 5 a day and that means the service department handles 30 requests per week. That is why we use a tracking system that logs your request in as soon as it arrives and when it is returned and which management can review daily to be sure service is kept as short as practical.

SGT HELI...think what you want...I KNOW some products are like that...but THERE IS a DEFINATE DIFFERENCE in batteries....no doubt about it...those cheap batteries simply do not perform as well as good batteries and dont take half the abuse....FMA and TP batteries are made here in the USA(I'm sure others but cant confirm).......if you fly a cheap battery then put in a good one you can hear and feel the difference...its not some mystical label thing...its tangible results.....can someone get me a translation program for TEXAS DAR.....I cant understand a thing he says....I'm trying,I just cant get a grasp
