this hobby is getting more affordable. The JR12x is a pro class radio. Most do not need a radio like that. The DX7 is more radio than most will ever need in this hobby. XP9303 just has more features. Reason for the 12X is for Giant scale guys that need all those channels for mixing. And trust me when you have $5000.00-$10000.00 wrapped up into a plane what is a mere $1500.00 for the TX.. I guess it is all about perspective. Will I ever get one, "no", would I like to have one "you bet". But I have a 9303 that I have had when they first came out. Never had a problem with it and have converted it to 2.4. Also the JR10x was around $1100.00, so the price for the 12X is not out of line.. Now does it play music like the 14mz?????????

This is a top of the food chain radio. You don't NEED this radio to get into hobby.

> I thought this hobby was geting afordable for people to join

It is. Look at what you can get now for $180 with the DX6i or the $230 for the Airtronics new RDS8000. Both are a whole lot more radio then you could get for that money just a year or two ago.

You can now get the fully capable, RTF Blade 400 setup for $370. And that includes the DX6i which is not a classic "throw away, RTF package radio." That's not getting affordable?

Simply how much money you have to throw at something
you don't need,to fly a Heli electric or nitro in the
400 to 90 size! There are always people out there that
have to spend the big $$$ fore something they don't need
or know how to use! I see allot of this at funfly's!

But to each his own, If I had $$$ to play with I might
do the same

GyroFreak, you would be simply amazed at how easy it is to program the 14mz, far easier then ANY computer radio that I have ever used. I do have a 14mz, but alas I do not have the bragging rights as I bought it used with four 5014 recievers and three x-mitter batteries for what I thought was a steal at $1600. And it is still on the dino 72 MHz band.

I agree that most will never need it, but I fly planks as well and the programming abilities such as conditions and mixes are astounding. I could get by without them, but they sure are nice to have!

And you also have to consider that a lot of these radios are updateable, you can download the newest software revisions and as such when the new wiz-bang programming comes out you can just download it instead of needing another radio later. A little while back Futaba added a virtual cyclic ring that I simply think is the bee's knee's as like I said I fly planks with it as well so there is no hard mounted ring that I have to remove when I go from one to the other, I simply switch models and everything is done.

I'm already on the waiting list for the 12x. JR is above and way beyond futaba when it comes to quality. This radio will be worth every penny spent.

I know Futaba has some good products but for all of you diehard Futaba guys I have one question. When was the last time you heard of anything JR needing an update, coming with the wrong length antenna, or any of the other numerous problems Futaba has had?

That's right guys now is the time to switch to quality!

I do not even think that it is an argument worth getting in to, it is kind of like Chevy v. Ford, Dr. Pepper v. Coke, there is really no right or wrong, no obvious superior chioce. They both make very good products, and depending on what you are used to that will probably be the brand that you choose to defend/wax eloquently about. I have used both and preffer Futaba, but if someone gave me a JR radio I would have no problem with it as I know that it is good stuff as well.

As far as Futaba needing updates where JR does not, I do not know if the new 12x is updatable or not, but if it is you WILL see periodic updates. Everything evolves, and if something new programming wise is developed then the manufacture would be inept not to create updates with the new programming. You can say that Futaba has been the only company to need updating, but as far as I know Futaba has been the only company with the CAPABILITY to update! Do you think that others would have not have done similar if the ability had been there? I would hope not....

I think these prices are a rip-off - if you took a $1500 or $2000 transmitter apart, the guts are probably identical to a $200 one. What's all the extra money for - a fancy case, a few more switches, and some changes to the software?
I was not impressed with the 'innards' of my 9C - looked almost identical to the cheapy Futaba transmitters I was using previously.
Maybe JR doesn't do this - I can't say from experience - but Futaba does!

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups.
