Hello gasser flyers,

I am thinking of getting a gas helicopter soon. Please can you answer a few questions:

Do the engines have a fuel pump?
Do you need a header tank for aerobatics?
Are the modern gas engines as smooth running as a nitro engine?

Thankyou for your help,

Yes, they do have a fuel pump.

No, they do not need a header tank, because they have a fuel pump and they do not suckk up fuel nearly fast enough for an air bubble to effect your run.

I think Billme will be able to answer the last one best for you. I think they do have a bit more vibration but that could be due primarily to the larger displacement.

inverted gasser

Thankyou Malorie,

If the engine has a pump, then the fuel tank must have a vent. How do you stop the fuel from running out when it is inverted?

Do you use tank pressure, or a non-return valve, or what?

Thanks again,

I look at vibration as a relative term when concerning gassers hehee

But, to answer your question, yes, there is a little more vibration as Malorie indicated, but in the right hands, and with a little humble learning, you can make it smoother than a YS 91

On the vent, you just wrap the vent line around the tank once, and exit it out the bottom...Some folks put a filter on the end to keep dirt out of the tank....I don't use anything, just let it hang out...I do this because I use a Sten's ceramic filter pickup inside the tank, and don't worry about it to much..Never been a problem..
Best Regards,

I get mine at the local small engine shop....Most shops handle the Sten's products...Pretty neat, 2.95 is what I pay for them...They probally have a website, but I've never looked for it

I agree with Bill, just wrap the vent once around the tank (fore/aft) and exit the bottom of the heli. BTW, keep the end a distance from the muffler, just for safety sake. You will have a couple of drops escaping now and again, but nothing like a glow fuel mess.
