Blitz Helicopters Avro 90 > What is the purpose of belt and torque driven in Avro?

Hi guys:

I am about to order one for myself. As such I would like to ask the guys who had got the Avro about this set up? Is this to help the tail set up better?

Saw a lot of review about tis heli..seems to be a fantastic heli to fly.

Any comments to share? Is the building part tedious like MA or simple as N9?

Cheers..

My take

From my experence the belt driven motor design is really good for having a smooth machine. The smoothest helis I have ever been around are the Robbie Nova's and Futura's which were belt driven. On a belt drive like this you do not need to have a start shaft that goes all the way thru the machine to support the pinion gear. This simplifys the clutch area of the machines and limits the vibes from the motor (which is spinning and vibrating more than anything else on the heli). If you watch some closeups of Dave Fishers Avro while it is hovering the fuel looks like its in a glass sitting on the counter... I belive that some of this has to do with the belt driven drive train on the heli...

Building is an absolute pleasure, everything fits where it should and Neal is on hand if you have any questions. They are one of the most helpfull companies I have had the pleasure to deal with for any product not just in the heli world. I can recommend getting the tail piece and rear mounts, it looks great and improves tail in visibility.

The drive train is silky smooth.

Also

From what i hear the reason for belt driven is it is quiter, and when and if it goes in you wont strip gears, there is also no meshing, with belt driven,

as others have said, it makes for a much quiter machine,

A guy in our club has one, very smooth flying machine, one thing he kept on about was the service was brilliant, havent got the funds on hand yet to buy one, but it certainly does look very nice.

I am halfway through stripping/checking and rebuilding mine, and it is very easy to work on, and everything fits absolutely spot on. The quality of parts is 1st class

I know that the BLITZ team are very passionate about their product, and this shows in the level of service you get

Thanks guys for all the response. I think tis is indeed a good heli.

Anymore comments from the owner? How about maintenance?

Should I wait for the Trex 700?
