Ive noticed a big heli motor twice the size of my 3800kv Esky motor is only 1200kv. How can this be?

This is what I didn't know:

KV: This number is the motor voltage constant expressed in RPM/Volt. This indicates how fast the motor will turn for a given voltage (given there is no internal resistance). As an example, the SS5800's Kv rating is 5,800 RPM/Volt. Therefore, if a 6.0-volt battery pack is used, the SS5800's RPM would be 34,800 (6.0 x 5,800).

I think we need Tryan to explain this one Sarge, I would like to know also. The way you showed it is the way i was thinking also.

just what exactly the 3800kv refers to. is it like what sgt said.

3800kv= 3800rpm per volt x 11.1 Volts in lipo? Or what is the true rpm that the motor turns at?

the KV rating is the rpm the motor will spin with 1 volt of power to it or RPM/V.....so a 3800KV motor with an 11.1V lipo(3800X11.1)spins at42,180 rpm....this is with no load

thats why bigger helis have lower KV motors because of the volts of their batteries.........a 10s(10 cell) lipo is 37 volts

thats what i was guessing, just seemed like a lot of rpms from such a little motor.

So, is there a way to figure the loaded rpms? Has that been done?
I have seen the rpm calculator on that darkhorse web site. Curious as to how it comes up with that.
