I also found the bearing block on the main shaft was only a press fit so I did the same on it. The bearings cant be over tightened as it is still a perfect circle and Im only using the same size cap scews, just no thread in the block and longer so it passes through. I used the same bolt that you use for the tail boom clamp.
Cheers

Sorry about the crap shots also. The left shot is the clutch bearing and the right shot is the main shaft bearing. Both shots from the top. Hope it makes sense.

Hi back again, have progressed quite well with the beast this week. Had to grind a bit away from the tail rotor pitch lever so it gets good clearance , I think it may only be an issue with the cnc tail. I changed a few of the mixing levers around a bit as some were a bit stiff, but with a bit of care and some careful tensioning of the screws the rotor head has come up real nice. Its now very smooth and free, also the ball links when they are snapped on are super smooth. The swash plate needs a little work, it has 3 screw holes in it , you put in small screws to retain the bearing. The screws then sit up to high and touch the spinning ball links so you just drill down the screw holes a little so the screw heads don't stick up to far. THIS is not a beginners machine, but with care it grows into a nice machine.
Cheers

Hi Peekay, I had the same issue with the tail but mine is just the standard, not the cnc tail. I used a spacer on the shaft to prevent the slider moving over too far for the arms to hit, only issue I might have is not enough tail authority once I test fly, we'll see.
Your making good progress and at this rate you'll have it airbourne before I will. Keep posting so we all see how it goes. Cheers, kosta.

Hi guys, just a post about the Aussie equivalent to Colemans, Ozark etc. It's called Shellite and I bought it from Mitre 10, then I also found it at Bunnings in the paint section for $6.66. Guys have posted here about using it instead of unleaded with no probs, so I thought I'll give it a shot. I don't have any experience with gas helis so if I can't get it to run right on Shellite, I'll try unleaded to see if it makes a difference. The only reason I want to use this is because I don't want the smell of gasolene in my house.
Kosta.

How big is the container ?

When i tried colemans (from Rays outdoors) i wasnt totally happy with it but it was only $7 a litre. Shellite i have only seen in the 300mm or so bottles (and i couldnt get an answer to if it was the same stuff)

we can never have too many, can we ?

Hi Oz, it's a 1 litre bottle so pretty much same as Colemans in terms of price. I did a search on shellite here on rr and found some people using it successfully. Hope it works well and love the fact that Bunnings carry it cause as you know, everyone has a local Bunnings these days. Cheers, kosta.

p.s Oz, thanks for the tip about Colemans at Ray's, still might need to use it if this is no good.

Nah, your not going mad, it's just the Aussie version of camper fuel which the US guys use in their helis. It's used instead of petrol because it doesn't stink like petrol does and apparently is a lot cleaner burning. Having said that, I haven't used it yet (but others have with success) so I'll have to let ya's know how it goes when I fire her up, if she fires up.

BREAK-IN

It is essential that you break in the GAS motor for at least the first two gallons of fuel at head speed of 1400 RPM at first & not to exceed more the 1550 after the second gallon. If you follow this break-in procedure is followed your Zenoah will last for many years of trouble free flying. The 3 gallon bump it up to 1600-1625 then 1700 for the 4th gallon on.

It is when you break in at too high of head speed before the parts have a chance to mate properly that causes early damage to the motor parts.

Please use 5 ounces per gallon for the first 2 gallons & never less than 32:1 afterwards...

Please keep us posted....QWW

I've mounted the header and muffler on my Dominator along with finalizing a few things like the engine on-off switch, boom supports, tail fins, centered fly bar and paddles, and tail blades. I had to custom make the muffler mount which I think will work well. All that's left now is to put on the 690mm Carbon Techs and check pitch curve. I've gotta do a search here on RR to find how to set the initial throttle curve. Don't want to accidentally over rev the engine on its first run. Easter holidays are here so I'm off for a few days, pity I can't take this monster with me. I'll post back with the first run results. Happy Easter everyone, kosta.

p.s the cut out in the canopy was from the previous owner, looks like he used a century v3 or something similar.

Would this break in procedure that 10X has a link to work for 2-stroke as well?

Here's a quote from the link:
Quote
Although the examples shown here are motorcycle engines,
these principles apply to all 4 stroke engines:

Notice that it states 4-Stroke engines.....

In my motocrossing days, we broke in easy with more success. If you ran it hard to start with, you would have premature ring failure.

I BELIEVE IN EASY BREAK IN

THIS MAKES MORE SENSE TO ME!

It is our experience with the 2 cycle Zenoah motors the HARD break-in
will only cause parts failure. There were many post about piston lapping, crane shaft & pin failure. I BELIEVE MOSTLY FROM PUSHING A MOTOR THAT HAS NOT MATED YET & OVER STRESSING NEW PARTS.

With the many Octane Dominator we have sold it seems the easy break in's has been in part without parts failure. We have experience several customers with Zenoah motors that had failure with very limited support from the US distributor. i would follow the manufacturers recommadations

We do appreciate 10X adding some in site full but controversial information.

I have a new BAT V2 that hopefully will be ready to fire up this weekend. The safe & sure method is 1400-1450 head speed for starts & break in slow...

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

SHE FLYS!

I've hovered the Dominator for 2 tanks now at about 1400 rpm running the Shellite (camper fuel) and it hovers pretty smoothe considering the rich settings. I still have to fine tune my 770t gyro, it works different to the gy401's which I'm accustomed to. These engines have a lot of torque, alot beefier than my O.S 50 nitro , I have the belt fairly loose and the gear train is spot on so far, I'll keep on posting as I run more tanks through. I'm excited so far.

Thanks Oz, by the way I just found out today that Bunnings have the Shellite in 4 litre containers for around 24 bucks. Better than buying it in 1 litre bottles . Cheers.
