| I have to disagree about the negative pitch bit. Haven't you heard of an "AUTOROTATION". That maneuver requires that at least part of the blade be negative to keep the rotor speed up.
And I don't think the tail rotor hit the ground. If he hit hard enough, there could have been something in the tail rotor drive or control linkage that let go. Or possibly boom flex locked the pitch controls. He did wait entirely too long to cut the power.
The BELL UH-1, (Huey) used to have problems with the 42 degree gearbox in the tail rotor drivetrain. |
