WoW.................! Just think what a Brand-New Guy would think reading this for the first time? Do you guys like each other, or hate everyone ? I just read full page and have to coment. One Eye is laughing, and one eye has a tear. Sooooo, looks like everything is normal. But what an ear-full. One thing that is new, 30 years ago the parts we needed would buy a Compleat King now, and some extras. "Thats-a-Good Thing" I’m a believer in the principle that the solution should have something to do with the problem. If there is no problem why seek a solution. Very well put, but thats just human nature, and its a guy-thing. ( Why dose my wife buy more shoes, when she has to many now ?) CF Main Blades , ya-but ! Years-ago, we put the red tape on one blade. Spin up some rpm's. Note red-blade. Spool up to Zero-Bubble, note red blade. Move High blade to match low blade, with bell-link-ball. One turn at a time. When you cant tweek anymore, thats what we flew with. Granted, I was spinning maby 40" main blades. But first, making sure everything is tight on swash-plate. Enter plastic, today. "Errrrr" But evan with new plastic, not crashed, every thing aside, blade tracking the mains should be eazy . When we couldent get the high one down, then bring the low one up. All our blades were wood, and not covered on the ends. A dap of red paint on one blade end. Im sure thats how yr doing it today. I plan on staying stock as long as I can, replacing plastic till everything is getting sloopy, Then It's Time For "Bling". Thats when crashing, and replacing cheep parts should be over. OK, WhAre im,were not waiting for parts every other week, I mean." Even if they cannot take advantage of the full capabilities today, things like a better gyro, better servos, upgraded radio, more precise head and tail make learning easier." Right, But at a much higher price guys. I love this $3.00-14.00 part fix. A swash-plate & Tail replace was $175.00, $225.00 back then. The learning curve is still there. But, WoW, has it gotten cheeper."Rather than get new plastic, I chose to try some purple. Not a phenomenal difference from new plastic, but a definite improvement from "broken-in" plastic." Right, nows the time for Purple, after you have weeks, and weeks of flying and not changing plastic parts. "BUT", I can see buying 3 new main rotor sets, for one purple one. Hummmmmm ? But,Now you have real-world time. Just like real Heli's. Planes too. Now you have Zero-Time Main & Tail.. TT ( Total Time ) Flying the good parts now should last a long time. And,FAA calls it your Roto Wing Ticket. An endorsment added to yr Private Pilot Ticket. I call it, time to take the "Training-Weels Off", and buying the cheep parts, OR, OK for buying the Expanseve-Bling."Griffin", Good point. The smaller the rotor-disk, the squirler the Heli. 40", down to 20". I do find it getting ahead of me quick.(The Sim) Keeps Us Old-Farts on our toes, dont it ? WOW, This thread really started some "Deep Thoughts" about how much is heli and how much is pilot, its got all of us Sole Surching, dont it. Wondering how much longer before each has his Roto-Wing Ticket,or earned in the log book,"endorsment to buy bling". I dought anybody keeps a log anymore. I had a real one. Used it as if I flew a real Heli. You'ed be suprised what ya read in the coments, on each flight !mounth, years down the road. I'll find out what the tails like with the new BL Motor. Back then, we just keept turnning the clevis till the tail stayed put in a 4-5 ft. hover, (out of ground efect)with trim tab centered, more or less. Sounds like a new game today. Gyros were what we wound up with a string, and gave it a pull. Im gona need yr help on that one, for sure. "I'd rather have a stable Heli to work with than learn on "wobbly goblin". YES,if any part is lose, replace it. Us newb's, me inclued, have a hard enought time on a tight head, much less a sloppy one. But a cheep part? Why buy that good-lookin one, when your gona be waiting for a nother in a couple more flites. I see 3-9 cheep parts, for the price of the one good one. $3.00 each time, or $12.00-$16.00 each time. BUT, get the good stuff, and warp it in Christmas Paper. Come a day you'll be ready for the bling. Called I got me Roto Wing Ticket Today. Pop the Cork, tear off part of yr T-Shirt, and have yr Flight Instructor sign it, and date it ( The Wife Will Do ) and put on the bling. When I ,ok mom dad daughter son, were working for our ham radio ticket, Ken our steel guitar player said, enjoy it wile yr working for it. Learning Morse Code. I got up to 19 WPM,and that is fast. Once you have your ticket, or "Bling"...... we take it for granted. Reamber,Having it, is the reward for, wishing for it. Wishing for it, is the price you payed, for earning it. Useing it, is the reward you payed for wishing for it. Not breaking it anymore, is now just taken-for-granted......! "Enjoy the proses"guys. Im waiting for the pricey-upgrade, and the party that will follow. Its hard enought getting mommy to advance Dars alowance for the cheep parts." you can't learn wtih it just sitting there. After repairs and some help from you guys (Fender is still "the man" ) Sounds like it from here too. Reamber, constructive critisim, comes in many forms. But it all comes from someone whos above you, or going threw same thing, just ahead of you. Most all is ment with feelings from the hart, and people that care. Im finding that out here on RR. "But I'm in the same boat as Gregor (and others). No local support. I'm glad I found this forum, you guys all seem to be helpful and supportive.Amen to that one.......! I can see, with out the RR Guys, my days of flying The King, would wind up on eBay quick. I'll have a Vodka-&-Orange, for every one of you guys tonight.....! "that newb down in Austin who asks alot of dumb questions and spends the dough". NOT....? thAre Is No Dumb-Question ! Just Expensave-Mistakes. I've been a entertainer( 38 yrs.) and drummer( 25 yrs.),picker-&-singer all my life. And thAres a lot of em on here. Born in 51, and first band in 7th grade.Recording CD's yeat today. If the pickers are Ribbin-Ya, yr in good hands. It's just what we do. Evan the diggin, is eggen ya on to Muster-Up & Hover. I've neaver felt so at home as I do on RR. OK, on the King page. No nead reading about the other chopers. More than enought friend-ship, on these pages right here. Sometimes we heli pilots can be TOO anal about things. Ahhhhhhhh, you should be traped on a tour bus with 6-10 pickers for 8-10 hrs. heading for the next show...................sometime ! Sure was enought Bickkering on my bus ! I sure got a lot out of the hart felt topic on the other page guys. Now you Young-Bucks, need to be kind to us Old-Farts. Yea, were older, & wiser, and Chickin to shove the Ciylic stick to the max.....! Just kiddin. But, were sure glad for all the help the younger guys on here are willin to share with us. "I hope to keep it open....but people take stuff to seriously...." Yes, but as I get older, I look at every thing like my Grandpa Did. Am I getting to Serious ? Its a gettin-older thing. Damm, I miss my younger years ! ( Big-Balls, No-Fear, Eazy-Money )( "Girls Every-whAre" Im hagin with the Young Bucks, on RR. I sure hope they let me fly with them.....................? Tex OuT !

Wow T. Dar, congrats on a big un! Thats got to be the biggest single paragraph on RR.

A challenge: I believe the preceeding post is the longest single paragraph on RR. I have read hundreds of em myself and never have I seen one this long. Have you? Show me a longer one.

You spoke volumes here:

Texas Dar: On your next long post, if we all chip in, can we buy some paragraphs?

It would make it a lot easier to read... (at least it wasn't all in CAPS ).

Sincerely, from someone who is neither a "Young-Buck" nor "Old-Fart".

Happy Flying!

You know how on steep mountain down hill grades they have those big deep sand pits for big trucks to have emergency landings? Thats where I sit right now on the heli highway. I dont like it.

FenderStrat, is 100% right. Only thing that saved a lot of parts was putting to 3ft.wooden dowels with wiffel balls on the end. Rubber ban them cross ways. Wide stance. When you get better, X em. like the new ones. Then go to the new kind we get with the King. ( 3 sets of trainer-bars)At first you want a wide stance, so on lift off and it starts to roll off, before you've got it trimed, it will save ya. Tail can take slite dings. Bout all ya can do is roll forward to break yr blades. I did my share. What would be nice is if all us "Show-Off's", would take yrs up and trim it out first. You guys, and me too again, have our hands full with a out of trim choper. Once I had my tail trimed on smoth slipery surface, then I was only fighting the Cyclic stick, to get it trimed. Evan on the sims, first thing I do is bring it up to zero-bubble( Light On the Skids) and trim the tail so it keeps its nose in the wind. On lift off, it will be close enought to only need light trim with the tab as the torke gos up. Why fight all 3 axes at once. IF, you lift off and it turns to the right,,set down and move trim tab 1 click left, and try again, till you can lift off with little swing. Same with the main. If it rolls right, trim 1 click left, till lift off is fairly up. You ONLY NEED 12-16 in. to see whAre yr trim is,and the wide wooden dowels will save the heli. Once you can bounce up and down 5-6 times and it seems to stay-still (kind-of) it will be trimed close enought to hover. It will still want to slide off the bubble of down-wash, but thats whAre you come in with small-taps on the stick. For you new guys, someone has told you about "Lag-Time".............Right ? In A Smoth-hover, and it drifts right. Tap L-stick. But from the time you tap L,it takes 1 1/2 sec. I've not seen any pilot explane that on here. As you see your L Tap,on the blades move then tap stick what ever way its now drifting, and so on. ( Leavel blades. Tap forward stick. 1 sec. later the blades tilt forward.)Thats what hovering is, evan in the real ones. But there its more just stick pressure for them guys. What yr doing is ballanceing a tennis ball on top of an nother one. I like to hover about 4-5 feet so im out of "Ground-Efect". Other wise the down-wash is trying to push you all over the place. You can do it at 2 ft. but it takes 3 times more taps on the stick. Better quit, or im gona get a "Whoopin" from the RR guys. ( Got To Many Words Goin Already )If ya want the long verison, pm me. With a trimed heli,3/4 of the learning curve is done...!
