e-E-Sky Honey Bee- Lama- Belt CP- E-Smart > Why not a ring around the tail rotor?

Alot of full size ones have it. That protective ring around the tail blades. Seems that would be a good idea on these birds. Why isn't that done? Im real good at setting it down on unlevel ground and digging the tail a little.

That is what the tail fin is for. Unfortunately the fin is usually shorter than the blades....

hey sarge, try the NOTAR SYSTEM, remove belt system, install varible duct on tail, install mini blower in battery tray, run ducting into boom, leave tail servo, it's needed to rotate varible duct on tail and there you go, problem solved

the HBK is already tail heavy...why add to the problem with something thats not needed??

Aren't you running the 2200 batts in your King Fender? Surely yours isn't tail heavy. What would a 1/16" dia. tube carbon doughnut weigh? Couldn't be much could it? As far as need, I guess I don't need it per se, but I do need to quit banging the tail blades.

yeah...but most people are not running batts that heavy........and if I'm doing any aerobatics (flips loops)I use a 1350...the 2100 is only for FF/hovering

yes a better idea...it will come with time..........I fried enough BLADE CP tail motors doing that to buy a T-rex seV2....almost..........they would go if you landed in tall grass.....you guys honestly dont know what a tough learning curve is...the HBK is WAY WAY WAY more forgiving to rough landings......with a BLADECP..you could break the landing gear, bend the main shaft,or fry a tail motor with a mild landing....and I am not exagerating

Sarge, If you really feel as though you need a ring, make one.

Sarge,

I went with a T-Re* tail fin assy. I have to change the screws out and put a spacer in, but the new tail is a little longer and thus hits the ground before the rotor would. I also moved mine aft. I think I'm about a 1/2" away from the tail box. I was curious however about what it would take to make the guard ring ala the Alouette and Bell 47 type. You have a screw hole on the bottom of the mounting bracket for the standard Esky fiber tail. Mine has the screw on the top of it, and a hole on the bottom. I'm guessing you could insert your rod here. I wouldn't use carbon as it probably wouldn't take the bend without breaking. But you could use aluminium tubing to do it. The trick would be where to bring the top of the guard to on the tail. I guess you could bend it over the tailbox and secure it with a tiewrap to the shaft. On the other hand, you could just create a tail skid or half ring that is curved but the end doesn't come back to attach it to the tailboom.

if you make it from carbon fiber, it will stand up better than fiber glass, it's too rigid the carbon will flex more, the aluminum tubing will be rather heavy for that, you may try a control rod, thin one, find something round close to the diameter you want and roll the control rod around it, go slightly further than half, then release, will have some spring back to it, but should conform to the desired radius intended, you can mount it through the plastic clamp that holds the vertical fin, drill holes through it, evenly spaced, avoid the screws if you can that secure the fin, pull the rod just far enough through and make small bends, one up the other down to lock in place, pull the radius back so the bends rest against the plastic clamp and that should do it

i suck at this, but having the time of my life with it!
