Main Discussion > Basic question re: torque / revo mix

I just finished breaking in the TT-36 engine in my Raptor 30 and attempted my first hover. I noticed that when I increased the throttle, the blades stopped moving and the body of the heli rotates instead . I am new to helis, but understand this is problem is related to torque and may have to do with the rudder pitch (perhaps?). Anyway, I have a Futaba 401 Gyro and the Revo Mix on the transmitter is turned off. Should it be activated to counteract this problem? Or is there anything else you may think is causing this problem (ie. servo incorrectly reversed, etc..). Thanks for your reply in advance.

P.S. - On the Futaba 401 gyro, any tips on adjustments? Thanks.

Long answer for rudder/gyro setup:

When the tail rotor is turned counter clock wise (ccw), ie blades move up into the main rotor downwash, the main rotor should turn clockwise (cw). This checks belt orientation. When standing above the helicopter and looking down at the tail, left rudder input from the transmitter should move the pitch slider toward the tail rotor hub. This checks proper servo direction. When you quickly move the tail of the helicopter to the right, ie turning the helicopter ccw, the tail servo arm should move toward the front of the heli. This verifies gyro direction.
Once all of that is set up properly, adjust your tail rotor linkage so that there is 4.5mm between the tailrotor case and the pitch slider. This is VERY close to the required pitch on the tailblades to provide the needed anti-torque to maintain a hover with a 1500 rpm headspeed.

Keep your revolution mixing disabled with that gyro.

Great answer. That should help. This may sound very stupid, but when throttle is applied, the main rotor blades spin clockwise. This is correct, right? So it sounds like I have to increase Gyro sensitivity to stop the model from spinning? Thanks.
