you know it was masonite a week ago , and it has been put completely together and taken completely apart every day since then , it is still in the assembly stages , so i will tear it down again at least once to cut the two switch locations into the frame , i still have to mount the magnets in the fan and then mount the fan to the engine , at that point though i will be ready for final assembly , and i am ready , believe me , the work seems to go fast at first , but the more you get done the slower it goes as there are more things to consider , i know Peter is familiar with this and his R-90 , everytime you assemble it you find one or two other things , besides what you are working on that need attention , and you keep thinking , "i just about have it!" , only to find somehting else , next time you are putting it back together , all in all i enjoy building , an a project like this , for me , it just dosen't get any better , so i am in hog heaven , thanks again , dana

PS: i put everything on my scale , blades 620mm , canopy , both flight packs , the EI unit , the starter , and the heli as pictured and the AUW looks to be right at 10 lbs or 4.5 Kg

the muffler in the photo is a V2 and i just popped it on to get an idea of the balance

i just found my V1 , top in photo and will try it first , it is 9oz instead of 14oz like the V2 bottom in photo , it has less volume also , and i think that will be better for the G-20

i will tell you my secret , but you must not tell anyone else , i got it off the classifieds here on RR , i will warn you though , you have to watch like a hawk as the good deals go fast , dana

there are also a lot of other companies that make great gasser mufflers , some are probably a much better size for the G-20 and probably a lot lighter too , i am just trying the V mufflers because i have them

be sure to check out Zimmerman and Hatori also

Unfortunately the V1 is not the best muffler out there in terms of holding on to the engine. I was lucky once when it fell off two seconds after I flipped the heli to upright from inverted...

May I suggest that you re-thread the 3mm holes with 4mm? That was the only way I got it to stick.

Did you end up supporting the pinion with one or two bearings?

thanks , i have to cut holes for the two switches and mount the engine sensor and i am thinking at that point it will be just like opening the kit box for the first time , i will be able to start final assembly , knock wood here

my wife and i live on the shore of lake Ontario , our house is between blocks and the streets deadend at the lake so as luck would have it we are whats called land locked and don't have a driveway , we have to park at the end of the street and then follow a foot path to the house , this time of year the lake usually freezes out about a hundred meters or so , and with the view from the front window you would swear a polar bear could walk by , needless to say , we love it

sorry i missed your question on the pinion bearings first time around , there are actually three bearings in the clutch starter assembly ( four if you want to count the oneway bearing ) , and although i was thinking of running just the main pinion bearing , i am back to running all three , i posted this photo last week but you must have missed it , HTH , dana

with any luck this could turn into a scaleable conversion for the upcoming 700N machine.

So you could start with a 600N, upgrade to a gas engine and possibly stretch the 600 to a 700N or start with a 700N and swap in a G26 size motor and hopefully get away with an airframe investment of less then $900 or so.

If it could be priced less then the basic Century Gasser, that'd really be the cat's a$$

thanks you guys , it is great to be able to share this with interested people and i am so glad we have the forums to get this information out and to others , RR ends up being like a huge collective knowledge base , and i think we all benefit with the sharing

my magnets came yesterday , and i have installed them into the fan and am almost ready to do a final install of the fan on the motor , i made up a sensor mount for the shroud plate , and i worked out installation of the canopy yesterday and have been working on installing the two power switches also , there have been a whole passel of these home stretch details to work out before i can button it up

i have been fighting off the worst case of 700 fever , i'm not over my case of 600 yet and i can tell i'm already getting the shakes , the 700 should be very interesting , i think there could be a few cross model parts , pinions , gears , belts , booms , that would open up the whole 650 class , and the 700 G-231 has got to be on more minds than mine , thanks again , dana

I forgot to ask what the test gear ratio is and what is projected headspeed for the first test? Can you tach it?

the 600n runs metric 0.7 MOD gearing , the stock machine comes with a 170 main and 20 pinion and i would like to run a 27 pinion but they are hard to source , so i do have a tach and will be shooting for around 12,500 on the engine and around 1500 on the head ( 12,500 would be 1470 ) , and i know this sounds low , but it is sport gearing and i am only a sport pilot , the 27 tooth pinion would give a headspeed of around 2000 , i will tach the head to see where the engine is if that makes sense , here are a few photos of the ignition sensor bracket and the magnets installed , one magnet is north on top and the other is south , the sensor only senses one of them and the other is just to balance the fan , dana
