Hi Dana
I wish you’d hurry up I can’t sleep I tried counting up to 600 but that didn’t help

Sounds like you’ve broke the camels back, well done.

hi Peter
i looked around for a set of servo boom mounts , ??? boom servo mounts and the Kyosho Caliber 30 has a 21.5mm boom and uses boom mounts , but i am thinking by the time i get on line order a set and wait for them to arrive , figure in they are plastic and i am already glad i just went downstairs and made my own , here are photos of the block bored out to 21.5mm and the layout for the bandsaw cut , they will be a working situation in the morning , cheers , dana

i started with a 20mm thick block , bore the hole first , and cut to shape , split it into matching halves , just leaves drilling and tapping

i shouldn't have slit the ring on them just yet but it will be OK , i will just need to slip a bit of sheet into the slit while i drill and tap , it's easy to get in a hurry

Hey copperclad...

why exactly are you mounting the tail servo on the boom? Oh no!

Do you think a removable pull-start could be accomplished in the future?

Because of the changes made to the servo locations, I would think it might help the CG a bit if needed. The engine is heavier also.I am of course just guessing here.

Yep loads to chose from but like Dana said in his post he didn’t want to order any up because it would slow the build down and he’s buzzing at the moment as you can see.

Dana that’s what’s called innovation isn’t it.

hi
yes , i knew i could find some plastic clamps that would fit , like the clamps on my predator , where they make one size and just use a liner to get them to fit , the problem i had is , i knew i could just make up a set and have them in the morning

hi Invrted1
you are all over it , i really liked the way they had the bellcrank for the tail servo , and it is the one stock idea i hated to get rid of , but my thinking has been with the larger engine , i need to shift weight towards the back and the tail servo was the obvious first choice , i still have the two flight packs to play with and still have to try the balance to see where the CG is

i was talking to Peter , an he brings up a good point , that it would be nice to look at the whole build with an eye to shave the cost , and i have to say it is a great idea , when i went after this conversion , i was looking at the amount of work and and it was pretty much uncharted water , and cost was near the bottom of my list , there are a bunch of areas that could be done differently and may shave a few pounds of cash off the top , it would be nice to have it down where it was a less expensive option to a gasser , i am still hot to finish and get it in the air , and i know with all the builds i have done before . that you are usually ready for a V2 before you even finish the first one , i think that with this build behind me it would be a good time to go through the whole thing again and try to work it out , as Peter says , with more of the stock parts , and limit all the add ons that run the cost up , cheers , dana

hi
they have an expression here about keeping your nose to the grindstone , and i have been so single minded and with my nose to the grindstone to get this project finished i have missed what could possibly be the biggest flaw with the whole idea , Mucho dinero , a lot of the little heli guys know if you want a really tini heli you are going to have to pay big for it , less is more , and it is looking like this project has gotten bit by the same problem , this conversion as it stands now is going to run the same money as a full size gasser

so , i am falling back to , this is a great proof of concept machine and still needs to be finished and flown , and i am more than happy to provide a good home for it , but it is probably not anything anyone would want to copy just yet

Peter and i are talking , it would now be cool to go back to the drawing board with the idea of reducing the cost to the point where it might sound rational to , i won't say a normal person , but to someone afflicted with our addiction , cheers , dana

I just hope that I can get enough from selling my Logo 10 and my Trex 450 to be able to get one of these. I consider the heli we are talking about here to be by FAR the best helicopter out there, for someone like me, assuming of course everything works out as planned. We should all be thankful that Copperclad is willing to do all of the hard work engineering this machine!

hi Alejandro and Invrted1

i can toss out a short list , and with anything it would be a good idea to compile a complete list before you jump in

i had the engine and drive train already for another machine i was working on , and with the 600n , i wanted to try this so bad i didn't much care as i was seeing it as only adding $350.00 for the kit to the parts i already had on hand

the 600n sport kit can be had for $350.00 US
the Zenoah G-20ei is..............$300.00 US
century drivetrain parts were ....$150.00 US
raptor clutch parts ...............$75.00 US
Zenoah pullstart ..................$37.00 US

then you would need to price out servos , and a RX , and a gyro , and a couple of flight batteries , and blades

this still leaves out the cost of the frames and the modified pinion and the extended drive dog ( pullstart ) and all the insidentals that always seem to add up , boom mounts , extra frame blocks , servo arms , ect , ect , ect ....

i see the biggest single problem is , the drivetrain adds over $250.00

it would be nice to take another run at this , addressing the drive train and pullstart and see if by using more kit parts , if the cost could be brought down , like i said above , i pretty much ignored this aspect of the build as i was more worried if it could even be done , thanks again , dana

if i come up with any other expenses i will edit them into this list

.

Hey Dana, have you checked the Pantera Clutch and fan, they are supposed to be a lot more bigger than the raptor, maybe there you can save some money

Hi Dana, The list is endless; you could add on a muffler and the optional ignition system.
It’s still going to be one hell of a heli though no mater how much it costs

hi
raptor8 , you just said what i think Peter and i came up with in our last PM , like any gasser it is a bit spendy to get into , but you have to add in the savings of not only fuel but those inexpensive Align parts , and once you add the fun factor , it's a no brainer , here are the latest photos , i needed to balance the machine , and of course it's raining here again , but the first two photos show the machine pretty well , the third photo is just to show the balance as it stands , this is just how it turned out , and of course when i say no brainer you can see why i jumped in , no head , no headaches

My surprise at how many people are for sale is only rivaled by my shock at how little they cost
