Well the 600G is just about finished and it would have had its first flight today had the Zenoah ignition system not been faulty, I’ve tried all day to get it to work but it’s obviously faulty and needs to be returned it’s been a very frustrating day I can tell you

Just a few pics on how it’s looking so far with the 710 mains and 110 tail blades

Same problem

I had the same problem last year with the 20I in the Avant. I was not able to get it to start. I assummed it was the ignition module and moved on to another project.

Sorry you ran into the same issue.

shut down! no way ! LOL

i'm still here , and putting time in on the machine , burning gas is the best , and only way i know , to see how the machine has turned out , and i am getting to the field every chance i get and running off fuel

and what you don't see is i am in contact with Peter , helping him get through his build , and chomping at the bit to see what it flies like with 710s on it

OK , and probably just catching my breath a bit , i had no idea this post was going to be this much fun

i have to admit , i have been grinning from ear to ear for the last few weeks , i really am happy with the way this project has turned out , and the 600 is turning out to be a great little gasser , thanks , dana

Hi Invrted1
I’m back in business with the ignition, after I started pulling it down tonight I thought Id give it one last try on the bench and after passing a magnet over the sensor I realised that only a small portion of the sensor picks up the magnet and that’s basically at the tip

Luckily for me I turned it round in the hole I made for it and now it works fine so it won’t be long before the maiden flight

Funfly bound

Dana,

You should bring that little gasser to a funfly! I'm going to the Hurlock, MD one as well as the MHA FF. Come down to one of those and we can spend time programming the radio (if you wish) to set it up for 3D and then taking it up for a check ride to see what she can do!

600G update

Well just when I was already to spool for the first time the Align regulator went up in smoke luckily I saw it and pulled the lead so it didn’t damage any servos I changed it for another and the engine started first time and idles nice so I go outside and tease the throttle but the new 90 deluxe clutch was slipping, the two parts No’s for the clutch are PV0322 and PVO408 and I’m wondering if the bell should be PV0323? anyway the LHS says it’s right so I’m doing the two liner trick today and should have it flying for the weekend.

Fixit:

What regulator are you using from Align as the std regulator is only rated for 3 amp max and the std IE module will draw 2.5 amps all buy itself also watch the input voltage it should not be more than 8.4 or the you will have a heat problem with the regulator. I am using the new Align 6 amp regulator with a 3200 2 cell Lipo and it works great for handling the ignition and RX as the two loads are about 3 to 4 amps. I have about 40 some flights now on this setup and know problems. My final setup will probobly be a new IE module like Copperclad is usins as they only draww about .5 amps and seem to work better from what I have read. I am in the final stages of a complete redesign of my frame layout because of wanting this conversion for scale use ,I have turned the engine around with the cylinder facing rearword and it will allow me to take about 2" off the front of the frame so all the stuff will not intrude into the cockpit area. I will have some pics next week and will post them. Also I have run the 23 tooth gear and it works allot better and have the 27 tooth to test now to see if the engine and head rpm is better.

Dana: Sounds like your machine is working good any news on engine performance with your design and have you tried any new gear ratio's other than the std. 20 tooth.

hi Jack
it sounds like you have been very busy , your new setup sounds great , i am glad to hear you have been able to try larger pinions , and i am interested to see photos of your new layout

i am still flying with my 20 tooth pinion , still breaking in the engine , i have only managed to fly a little more than a gallon so far , i am very happy with the setup so far , and other than some slight tail kicking still , the machine is running very smoothly , thanks for keeping us posted , dana

C.A.P. just sent me his new fan to try out , he has been doing work to improve cooling with the Predator fan , and has had samples of his new design made up , i am very interested in trying it out and comparing it to the standard ( slightly modified ) Century fan i am using now , here is a link to a thread he has on it

Yes I’m using the new Align 6 amp regulator also with a 3200 2 cell Lipo like you but only for the RX, the ignition has its own 3cell Nihm 2200 as I didn’t think I could run both on the regulator, the problem with the regulator was all 4 wires in and out had about 3mm of striped wire after the solder and had been shorting out when the wires moved.

I’ve just finished relining the clutch and now it’s trying to engage on idle so I think I’m ready for the first flight later tonight or tomorrow.

Can’t wait to see how it fly’s with the longer blades

Dana, I hope to use a gallon or two over the weekend if the weather holds

First 600G flight

Ok the first 2min flight went well today and I’m still smiling hours later and I have Dana to thank for that

The clutch held fine and the heli was very stable, the tail was rock solid but I did have a bad vibration on the tail and I’m sure this was caused by a bent fabricated torque tube so I will be changing that tonight with a Raptor 90 torque tube from the LHS fast-lad.co.uk

The head speed tached at 1520 so I guess the puts the rpm round about the 1200 mark the temp measured 59C-138F and that’s the hottest reading I got for all the flights today.

After a few more short flights and cooling down periods I checked the plug and it was gray using the factory settings so I opened the low up 3 screwdriver blade widths, this brought the head speed down and the head then developed a wobble due to a rich setting and stiff dampers.
I only managed two tanks today because I had to shoot of to the LHS for a new torque tube but I hope to use a gallon up tomorrow at least and then lean it off a tad.

Good and bad news

I set off too the field at lunchtime and as soon as I got there it started raining, we sat it out and did managed to get one flight and that wasn’t so good for me, firstly the new torque tube cured the vibrations and the tail was as smooth as silk and that was very pleasing so I’m hovering about 3ft off the ground thinking this is one nice Heli when I lost controll and it just fell to the floor broke the skids toppled over and smashed the blades and the tail front drive gears if the skids hadn’t broke it would have sat there half throttle for 30 mins because the second Align regulator had packed in I took this one from my other 600 and put silicone between the wires and tested it before I fit it so that’s it, no more Align Regulators for me.

Apart for the crash the heli run very smooth and just sat in a hover sounding awesome I can’t wait to try again tomorrow if it’s not raining

Ihave been using Fromeo Regulators inmy Planks for a few years now, and that is all I use. I put the Arizona reg in R90 and R50 . If they can handle my 28lb planks , they get the nod for the whirlys.

Wanna hover??? Buy a helicopter.

I've used Duralite before with no problems, the only reason I changed to Align was for the built in battery meter but even that’s not very reliable.

Try the Dualsky VLR8. Im using it in my Maxum. Cheap, has LED display, is linear, massive heatsink, dual input and output leads, 8 amp continuous rating. Cost me $40AU!!! Only thing is you have to use a inline stepdown for the tail.

If you bling it, they will come :D
