My name is Mitchell Kahn. I am the director of helicopters on the San Fernando Valley Flyers board. My apologies for not posting earlier. This was not brought to my attention until last night and it wasn't till this morning that I saw these posts - 4 pages of them.

I will try to help make some sense of what is going on. So far I have spoken with Dabbling and Shawn who are Valley Flyers as well as Dianna and Barry who are both members of the SFVF board. I have also spoken with Eric Pacheco and Jeff Green both of Hirobo.

Jumping right in:
The Apollo 11 Field is located within the city of Los Angeles. It is a public facility but it is maintained by the clubs who use it and we have a large say in how the park is used. The SFVFs is the larger of the clubs who call it their home field and they have done good things to allow it become the remarkable field it is.

Last year the field schedule included events which closed the park to sport flying many weekend days including one month where 4 weekends in a row had the field closed. 3 day events are of course the worst offenders since there are many who can only fly on weekends and this will preclude them from flying at all that week.

In response to a large public outcry (bad PR) the board worked very hard on this years schedule. Criteria were established for scheduling and this was coordinated among 5 distinct groups: sport flyers, helicopters, jet aircraft, giant scale and electrics. These criteria were posted in our October, 2001 newsletter.

The 2002 schedule which includes the Hirobo Cup in May and our 3-D Classic Labor Day weekend puts no two events on back to back weekends. There are less total events and there are only 3 three day events - the two heli events and one jet event.

The helicopter events are 3 day events. Starting at 8am Friday there is an AMA sanction. There will be a radio impound and AMA card required frequency control for all. The only nod towards local sport flyers is until noon on Friday we plan on allowing shared airspace while event activity is typically light. Helis are allowed on the main flight line for aerobatics with constant moving manuvers as are fixed wing. There will also be other areas for hovering and 3-D flight - this is a large and comfortable field. From 12 noon on however it is helis only.

As always it is the CD's call where safety is concerned as far as closure to sport flying but what is stipulated above shows the intent of the club. Unless there is a suprising number of pilots early on Friday who cannot be accomodated it would be a great way to strengthen our relationship with the public while barely impacting a weekend of flying. So far this also sounds acceptable to those involved.

I hope things are close to being back on track for this event. I had a ball at last years Hirobo Cup and hate the thought it wouldn't be even better
this year.

Mitchell thanks for the fast action and charge it took to straighten out a confusing situation. I am looking forward to the Hirobo cup in a big way. I am proud to be a represonative of Hirobo,a company that is strong and persistant in taking care of the hobby which we care for so much. It would be nice to see some of the other companies step up to the same level of Hirobo and host some events on a regular basis in some what of a vast area. Special thanks to Jeff Green with Altec/Hirobo for the endless hours invested into such events around the world.

GREAT REPLY DAVID H

To donate prizes is great we all enjoy that; However it takes commitment and sacrifice to put in time and energy into physically bieng at the events they premote. Some all give, and some give all. Can't you see the diffrence.

Mitch what are you starting here???

To set the record ... at this point the event is not on and it won't be until MRC contact the board president. and they work out the details so please don't be providing incorrect information because that is what caused all the problem to begin with.

We are working on getting all the issues fixed and we hope by the end of the week it will be posted one way or another.

Clarification About the Hirobo Cup CA

Hello all,

First, my apologies for the inconsistent information that is being put out here on the Web. While things have changed a little from the first event set up, we are working to comeup with a viable solution in the interest of putting on a great event. Any decisions from MRC to hold the event or not will be made in this interest only.

MRC makes the final decision on the event based on my take for all events. While it can be a headache sometimes, anything worthwhile does have a little "price" to it and the satisfaction of a great event is worth all these little speed bumps along the way. Which, is what this is.

It is a shame we have to go through these type of problems, however rest assured I am seeing through all the "hoopla" to keep this event on track and on schedule.

Also worth noting, the overwhelming response to other clubs in the area wishing to host the event should the differences not be settled is greatly appreciated so it looks like a Hirobo Cup will be held one way or another and at its best possible quality for all the pilots and guests.

At this point in time a Hirobo Cup will happen in May, just the location and arrangements are being soilidified again.

If any have questions, please contact me off the group either thru here or at jeffg@modelrectifier.com.

Shawn Miller's contributions to the event are invaluable and to loose his participation would be a great loss I would miss personally.

So we will continue to move forward and work to putting on a fabulous event like the ones prior.

Thanks
Jeff Green, MRC

we should all acknowledge a wave of support to Mark Ryder for allowing this thread / debate on his site .. in review of it , was alarming, sad and appears a resolution is in the works , communication issues usually are presented at the end of the day in advance ..

from what i read the california event can be handled appropriately by all the governing bodies and in everyones best interest

I can understand your point I seen the post before it was removed from the board.

I have been saying from the start lets not forget the point. the event in question.

As I also pointed out in the other topic this is about looking out for the heli pilots who planned to support the event. As the CD of the event I and MRC should of been told before any scheduling changes took place.

As it turns out I think we will see the information that was sent to me on the schedule was incorrect and the item that was released in the news letter was also not complete.

This as I have been saying just as Jeff has also posted above is a matter that MRC and the club's top leadership needs to work out.

If the heli pilots that attend the event do not have a problem with letting the fix wing pilots using the field durring the event and MRC does not have a problem with it then that's what will take place. But I think from the pilots that posted they don't see this as a option and I won't comment for MRC. This was not scheduled as a general fun fly it was scheduled as a three day heli event.

So let's just chill and let them work it out. who knows the event maybe moved to another site.

I just would of liked Mark to act this quick when I was first attacked after I sent him a email asking him to review the topic. 20 min or so after the attack on me. But that's water under the bridge.... I also think Mark has done some service to all of us by giving us a chance to point out we have some problems and that steps need to be taken to address them.

If anyone feels I have posted incorrect information please feel free to take this offline with me at shawn@usinter.net
