I have 3 that I bought when they first were available from Tower. So far they have performed well with no issues about 40 flights (knock on wood). They seem precise enough in the air and respond very rapidly to stick movements. This does concern me however because when I bought them I liked the fact that they were a total use servo recommended for helis. Granted that they replaced 9451s and I had absolutely zero problems with them and they were clearly rated for surface use and didn't think it was an issue in a heli. However this new problem defiantly worries me and I will keep a subscription to this post to find out where it goes

This is not the first time Futaba or thier distributers have mislabeled a BLS servo on the web. How many bought 251s when they first came out because most websites said that they were for both the 401 and 601 series of gyros? I know a few myself.

I am still a Futaba guy when it comes to servos and gyros, but something about this doesn't seem like the Futaba quality that I have been flying for the last 12 years.

I agree. I have used Futaba for 24 years now. I have stuff from back in the 80's. My question is now to use them or to change them. I have a brand new Freya Evo 90 with a YS91. So do I fly it or pay to replace the BLS451 that are currently installed.

I would say fly it! BUT... be very cautious and at the first sign of any glitching I would yank those servos.

Honestly I am very happy with mine and until reading this I thought they are the perfect heli servo... fast, powerful and reasonably priced!

This is the first time I have heard of this problem with these servos. Is this a widespread problem that is being talked about on other forums too? I don't frequent other forums very often.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

Got a Jr 9303 2.4 with not a problem. Between the 2048 resolution and these servos it has transformed my Raptor 50 into a new heli.[former setup was analog servos with an FM radio]

I've got 4 of them on my Trex 600N and I have been having glitching troubles from day one, I have swapped out the G3 5014 Receiver with a 5114, re routed the antenna wire away from the Duralite Battery, checked every wire and made sure every nut and bolt was tight on the Heli and still no end to the glitching. Today I switched the G3 5114 receiver into "Mode B" and I got in 5 glitch free flights. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with masking this problem, I think they need to go to someone with a DX7

I've put together three of these 600N's and used 9451's in them with absolutely no problems, this last one I decided to go with the BLS 451's and it appears that wasn't a good decision

Futaba needs to do the right thing here, Bad support and service is just the news that travels fast here on RR and Futaba will lose a lot of customers

I think the fact that Futaba has gone so far as to back away and say that these are no good for air use is a pretty good indication that they know there is a major problem. I just put 3 of them in a new 600 nitro and on the 5th flight bang, I was dead. So if you decide to continue using them at this point after seeing all of this your on your own.

If you have them and have not yet used them, I would send them back to were you purchased them and save yourself the headache. If you have used them try letting your retailer know the issue and see if they can replace yours via there distributor given the situation. My retailer has already pulled all of his and is sending them back to Futaba after seeing all this.

I you have them and are going to continue using them, I'd make sure you have AMA insurance up to date (make sure you get that lost limb digit, and heli through a windsheild coverage) and let everyone in your imediate area know your flying a potential ticking time bomb! When mine went out I had no abiltiy to counter the heli going out of control so it could of easily been ugly and injured someone if I had of been up in the air doing manuvers. Luckily I was only 10 feet off the ground testing it in a hover.

At this point this isn't radio glitching or an FM vs Spectrum issue, or even a build setup or static issue, this is faulty servo issue. So it doesn't matter what your transmitter and receiver is if the servo goes all Hellen Keller on you.

I'm just curious as to what the truth is:

1. Did Futaba trully market these as all purpose servos only to try and back away from that when planes/helis started falling from the sky, rather than fess up and say ooppss!

Or

2. The marketig department totally screwed up when they plastered "recomended for air" everywhere on these, and some product engineer was in the background saying "God no don't tell people to use those in planes and helis, we just lost a spy satallite and had to shot it down becuase the DoD used those darn things"

I am waiting on one of these BLS451s in the mail. It should be here tomorrow according to the tracking #. Too bad I didn't have this info a few days ago. I hope Heliproz will accept it back as a return

To that point my last 600 electric had the S9451's as well and I have not had a single issue in over two years flying it almost everyday, those 451's were flawless and still are. But when those were discontinued I made the mistake of going with these as well. In fact everyone is under the impression that these are the "brushless upgrade" from the 451's.

I'm sure they will get to the bottom of the problem and come out with a new version that there comfortable enought to say is heli safe. But by that time will anyone really trust them after they got burned once.

just my 2 cents.... i have been using them in my Stratus for 6 months and they have been the most reliable (and my favorite) servo's i have used to date. I am running them at 6v, and i know of other top pilots running them at 7v for longer than i have had mine, without a single issue. with regards to futaba saying they arent for heli use, i wouldn't put much stock in that considering they said the same thing about the 9451's and 9351's and they were widely used by just about everyone (myself included) in helis without issue (or at least without any more issues than with any other servos). i have never understood Futaba's ratings in terms of proper servo application, and it seems like the majority of their employees dont either, since every one seems to say a different thing.

Does anyone at Futaba actually have a clue what they're doing?

1) The 6 channel FASST RX that wasn't compatible with all FASST TXs/modules.

2) The whole GUID fiasco.

3) The 608 is/isn't 2048 resolution.

4) The 607/617 issue. Yeah, it's only a component issue. Yeah, right.

5) The improved 14MZ manual that never materialized. Even the Aurora will be out before they come out with a useful manual.

6) My FASST stuff has been on backorder since December. Was supposed to be here in January which came and went.

So does anyone at Futaba really have a clue what they're doing?

I was seriously considering some BLS451s for a new heli. No doubt I'm going with 8717s now.

Sorry folks, I forgot to mention this one:

7) Sending out the TM14 modules before sending out the firmware updates required to use the module. Then, after acknowledging the problem, taking several days to post the files on their website.

I have a set of JR 8311's that I did the speed up gear conversion on. Meantime it's time for me to stand by and see if Futaba makes a statement regarding the purchase of 451's based on their previous usage information.

Krysta... you really should get on here and back up what you said about these servos. You are an official Futaba rep at the main Futaba service center. Please don't come in here and drop a bomb and run.

BLS-451 is very good servo! Previous 9451 was the same rated for cars and work very well on helis.

Bobby Watts is running Bls-451 on his X-CEll on 7V and he is a PRO
Ive got those servos on my 90 and the rocks!

Futaba All the way IMHO

Futaba FASST 12FG | Raptor 90 V-Max | Raptor 50 Blinged! | T-Rex 450 SE | Vison 50 Soon!!!
