I have a Sullivan Hi-Tork starter powered by 12, 3800mah sub-c batteries. It won't start my new YS 91 motor. Can I run 2, 2100mah 3cell lipos to power the starter or will that cause problems? Or should I just get a different starter?

I'm running mine with a 3s 2170mah lipo. Powers it great. I might try a 4s battery next if I can get a hold of one!!!

Yeah, I tried it out today anyway and it started the YS so easily. I noticed that if there is any resistance, the swithc gets pretty warm but I am not too concerned. I think I will run it like this for a little while to see how I like it or I just may go back to my NiMH pack and add a few cells to up the voltage.

Yea, I really like using my old 3s packs that I was using on my Trex 450. So much nicer than using the other type of batteries.

Sullivan Starter Mod

I have a YS 91 w/Viper Head in my Predator Carbon 90 Max and have had lots of trouble getting it started. I just got the Hobbico/Sullivan adaptor and it allows you to use a Makita LXT 18v Lithium battery, it’s a clean mod and starts the YS 91 with ease. I have used the first charge for about two weeks now and it still works great. You can get it at www.afineredgemfg.com and if you have a 90, I highly recommend this starter mod.

One interesting thing I found out. If you have a newer (as in past mid-80s) Sullivan starter, you can convert it to a Dynatron by ordering the motor (about $32) and long switch (under $5) and swapping them on your current starter.

I'm running my Sullivan Hi-Tork on two 2S TrakPower 5000mah packs (model car packs) running as 4S (14.8 volt) and there are no issues. I use it to start my YS equiped 90s with no problems, plus they are good for about a month on one charge. Check out the bottom of my gallery for pics.

I use the dynatron on 2 3300 6 cell packs and it works great on the 90s.I think the dynatron is alot more powerfull though.
