very predictable to tune

however I am running 20/30 fuel I did have a lean hover yesterday while tweaking and thought "hello" here we go the issue of swarf in the carb perhaps? then just opened the main a couple of clicks and it was fine again, I followed the bench mark of others on here it seems a good mix ie idle opened 1/2 turn from factory setting which is screw flush with carb body and my main out to 21/4 turns seems quite cool and im sure I can lean it more however I am still running a carb smart "disconnected" and just watch the servo are move close to centre then back when put down, unfortunately I cant get to the field for a few days so have to be happy on the front lawn hovering and tweaking... proof will be when its out at the field

to try and compare things for me.......

years ago I brought a old "smogger" 350 chev v8 to stick into a HOLDEN TORANA which originally had a 2 L 4 cyl motor.... the old 350 was worn out and had a crap carb yes it ran and would pull a truck forever sucking fuel and farting around..... pulled that motor apart to every last nut and bolt fully rebuilt it with new everything put a 850 Holley carb, single plane manifold on it HEI ignition and tuned to perfection with dual exhausts exiting by the rear wheels with a couple of high performance mufflers 350 hp cam BLAH BLAH BLAH and it ran like a finely tuned watch on steroids....... huge amount of hp and dyno put it at around 320hp now lets compare my old TT50 Pro (smogger) to my new redline (350Hp V8) well there you go.... lol and this is only hovering on my lawn

Burned my first TT53 tank just hovering since I hadn't flown in 6 mos. and it was running great. It seemed to be leaning a little when I got half through the header tank so I pulled a couple quick little climbouts to check power and response when all of a sudden there was a pop, the engine stalled and lost all power, and sounded like the muffler fell off but it didn't. I saw something fall off though...autoed down, looked around and there was no backplate!! Musta forgotten to tighten those screws after installing the fan!

I can see the funny side of that

I had the same with a muffler!!

Well at least when a muffler falls off the engine still has a tendency to run. That backplate fit quite tightly with the O-ring. I suppose suddenly pulling back power after one of those climbouts built up enough pressure inside the crankcase to pop it out.

Are you referring to the needle valve settings? If so, then yes. As per the "simple" break in procedure the manual speeks of, I chose two tanks full while merely hovering. The engine is performing great after that!

Needle adjustments are relative to ambient temperature and altitude (air pressure).

Also trying out the TT53 first with the MP5 and now with the Hatori matched pipe. I can't say I notice a great deal of power difference between the two mufflers but the engine definitely has enough grunt to run with the best of them. Just getting used to that raspy exhaust note. Now thinking Hatori pipes have the edge over the Muscle pipes on 50 engines - a lot quieter for one and they look better. Power is about the same. Running on 30% CY Wildcat and no bogging issues. I had to order the Hatori pipe from Singapore because no one stocks it in the UK yet. Well worth the money

Are you using the Hatori designed for the OS50? I have this muffler and want to use it on the .53 will it work.

I'm using the JK Hatori on my Titan with OS(engine has now expired) and this was ok. I would say the JK would work on the TT53 but the #523 hatori was designed for this engine. The amount of power difference is not going to earth shattering so give it a go.

PS Now my OS has expired (bearings) does anyone know how the YS50 runs with the JK Hatori?

Called Heliproz they said their is no difference in performance between the hatori pipes other than a one piece design.

Push-pull Carb Linkage

Has anyone installed a second linkage arm on their TT53 carb? I'm getting ready to install the second tonight, but won't be able to test it until next weekend. My theory is one linkage works against the inherent carb binding more than two linkages applying equal force and keeping the carb a bit more centered. I agree when other say this carb barrel is less than friendly.

I got about 75 flights on the R3 Thunder Tiger glow plug that came with the engine. It was running so well I actually forgot to change it out! Power began to fade after 75 flights and since changing to an OS#8 all the power is again restored. I would definitely buy another R3 plug.

Update: The push-pull dual linkages truly makes a difference, virtually suspending the barrel. This past weekend I had no issues. I believe this will help reduce the wear pattern we are all experiencing, and helps existing damaged barrel movement. However, tuning of one linkage rod is required to get it smooth. Adjust with 1/2 turns.

I call BS on that one. I had the hatori 2 piece(sb50hp) and changed to the 523. It is a difference, not massive but DEFINETLY more tourqey.
