e-Gaui Hurricane 200 & 550 - EP100 > Hurricane 550 Z20 980kv vs the Gaui 890KV

I now have several flights with the Z20 980 KV. on Eagletree v3

I'm running stock gears with a 14t pinion...i have both 2500 and 3300 Polyquest 25c lipo.

The Gaui as everyone knows runs HOT...Z20 cool as a cucumber, the fan works great.

Gaui Hovering amps....20 -23...Z20 16 - 18...
Gaui 2500mah 6 mins 2000 back in 3300mah 8 - 81/2 and roughly 2400 back in, might have flown a little longer than 8 kept landing to check mah used.

Z20...6 mins only 1600 used flew a few more minutes put back about 2000..so I may be able to get a good 8 minutes of FF, 8's, stall turns, etc. The 3300 went 8 to 10 minutes no problem.

I really need to write this all down and give a more acurate report, but I can definately see the Z20 is much easier on the lipos and stays cool.

It does seem to bog a little on hard climbs outs more than the Guai..

motor and head RPM's were pretty similar...about 22,000 motor and 1850 head.

I need to check with an optical to see how acurate those speeds are..

Bat temp went to about 110 deg with both...

I'll post more when I get more flight time, but overall I like the Z20...will try a 15t pinion at some time in the future.

Anyone else have any figures between these two motors....I can't wait to get some good air time, been too cold to spend any real time at the field..it's a quick fly and run.

Most of my flights have been with the stock 890 Kv gaui...your munbers look like you might have the 1100KV motor...

My numbers for ff, stall turns, and 8's are 39, 40, and 40 amps max on 3 flights....and 790 - 835 watts.

The Z20 was 33 amps and 691 watts.

I don't have a lot of data yet on the Z20, but so far it seems pretty good on the batteries. I used 2500 and 3300 polyquest and got about 8 min and 10 -11 respecetively.

When the weather breaks i would like to log some more data and try different pinions also.

I'm no 3D guy so I think the Z20 will do me just fine...and runs really cool to the touch.

me no 3d either M, my motor is the 850....so you can see im really hurtin it.. ive been lookin to swap to the zpower motor, thats why im really interested in your numbers.... after 4mins my motor is hot as hell and the batts are warmer than i like... im using a eagletree v2, i havnt got a temp sensor yet, ive got a optical rpm sensor but havent mounted it yet............ive got a zpower on my mini titan and that comes down cool after giving it heaps....

Dick..

wow ! that's a lot of amps for just regular flying...that 850 really sucks up the amps.

If you have the 50 amp esc your really pushing it...

I think you would like the Z20 for regular flying if you have big batts and want raw power then the Z30 is the motor....I would rather have flight time and the z20 is perfect for my style of flying.

I have been running the Z-20 980 with a 50 tooth forward gear and a 16 tooth pinion.
This combination puts the gear ratio in between the 13 and 14 tooth pinions with the stock gears. With my Align 75 amp speed control set to high timing I am getting a measured 1990 RPM on the head halfway thru the flight. I can do 5 minutes of moderate 3D and I typically put 1.6 amps back into my 2100s. My average amp draw is only 19 to 20 amps! I am so impressed with this motor I am thinking about putting a Z-30 in my Trex 600.

15T flight data

OK flew a few flights and hovers with the 15T pinion...

Definately could hear the difference in headspeed but didn't really register a lot on the Eagletree..maybe the governor is limiting the rpms.. 1850 - 1900

7 -71/2 min flying with 2 sets of 2500 polyquest 25c packs...

avg draw was 20 amps...peaks to 30 -35 doing FF, 8's, and stall turns along with tight max high pitch turnarounds.

2100 avg mah used on both 2500 packs for 7 -71/2 min and 2500 mah used on the 3300 packs for 8 mins.

batt temps 110,95F on the 2500's and 80F on the 3300.

Hovering in back yead, 4 1/2 mins 1050 mah, 14 -18 amps.

motor always cool on all flights.

Decided to go back to the 14t as I think that will get me max times and better bat life for now.

Just picked up 2 hextronic 2200's so hopefully i can get a good 5 -6 mins from them also.

Still love this motor and i can see others are finding the same great performance. Too bad Gaui didn't have this on the stock kits.

dick smith: Both the 50 tooth gear and 16 tooth pinion are Gaui parts.

mjdee14: We seem to be getting some different results on head speed numbers.
What blades are you running? I am using the RCP 500mm blades.

Dick...lipos are about 95deg F...very cool...as is the motor.

X30...

I'm running the go-quick 515 cf blades...i don't seem to get over 1850 -1900. doesn't seem like much difference between the 14 and 15t on the graph.

Today I tried the 14T with the Align 75a and it showed 2050 rpms. I'm using the brushles controller at 9.63 :1 for the setting...

I tried an optical pickup on the eagle tree and it didn't agree with the brushless I had to change it to about a 16t ratio to get it to come out the same.

Tried to fly today and after first flight broke a tail servo arm...left all the parts at home...bummer !!

The RCPs weight 3 oz. per blade. The have a great roll and flip rate but they do not leave much energy left for autos The Mikado blades I was running are 4 oz. per blade. These blades flew well and are great in autos but they don’t flip and roll as fast as the RCPs

That looks pretty good....only 1450 mah for about 6 mins of hovering.....

What kind of packs are you using? Bat voltage seemed to hold pretty good all the ay across.... you had several more minute available...it looks like.
