Just got me a Sullivan Dynatron starter and I was thinking of using two 3s 2100 lipo,s to power it, but not sure whether to wire it up in series or parallel?....will be using the starter on 50,s and 90,s.

Thank you in advance

In series the volts will add. In parallel the current will add.

Since the dynatron can handle 24 volts, I would wire them in series to give you the umph you need to spin the 90. Be careful when starting anything smaller, if it is flooded, you might damage the engine.

I have 2 1900mAh 7-cell NiCd packs wired in series on the bottom of my starter. I have started a G38 (gas engine) with my starter (not a dynatron).

series is the way to go. if you don't have enough volts to the dynatron it will seem weak.

Hi All

I'm thinking of doing this with my dynatron. It struggles to start my 91SZH on a 12V car battery. The battery sits in my flightbox and powers the fuel pump. I'm sick of lugging it on and out of the car. I could use a small 12V 7Ah battery for the pump and 2 x 11.1V, 1800mA lipos from my X400 for the starter.

Will the dynatron spin a 50 on one pack?

why dont you put a 18v battery pack from lowes and spin the top off all of them. it costs less than buying lipos

Battery powered starters really are the future, no more lugging around heavy batteries for a flight box, well worth the expense. I a 6 cell and 8 cell nimh 3300 pack and use them, they were only cheap, plenty to be found if you look around. Seems a shame to waste a good lipo for a starter.

has anyone ever measured amps when starting an engine 30,50, 90, etc
what volts and what amps. I'm just curious because this would aid in proper battery selection for a lightweight setup. It seems not matter what the a123 batts at 12-15v would work great for a starter because of their high discharge characteristics and robust nature (my starter tends to get dropped and banged up occasionally)

I FIND THE DENSITY OF THE AIR CHANGES SIGNIFICANTLY BELOW 0 ALTITUDE.
