Cybinary - For the price of the MAH tail blades, you can buy 3 sets of the plastic ones. The radius block is supposed to be pretty sweet on the Lepton. It takes all the slop out.

ONLY90S - I'm sorry, I'm not trying to jack your thread. I use only Futaba 401 gyro's on all of my helis. It works for me, I just haven't had any reason to go to something different. If you want to use a full size servo on the Lepton, I believe but I'm not positive, you are going to want the Full Size Servo Mount from ReadyHeli like was posted earlier.

But the plastic ones don't look nearly as good as these do...

I also run 401s on all my Heli's

Futaba 401

I was trying to stay away from the 401 as I have not had good luck with them and the Logitech 2100 is to small to hold inverted backward flight. If I have to I would use one but was told the JR7703D was a very good gyro as well by someone from HeliProz that uses it on his Raptor 90 3D.

The logictech 6100T is a fabulous gyro on the lepton. Works great and fits nicely. You can put the servo on the outside of the frame and I think it also fits inside with a mounting bracket from ReadyHeli or Rchover. Here's how I attached the servo to the frame. This ship with a "real" gyro (sorry...I just think the 401 and slower servos aren't there) is amazing. Tom PS, the new JR is also really small, sensor and brainbox are one piece and it works great too. Not sure what servos I've seen it paired up with but good and fast digitals.

Cybinary - Yes the carbon does look better compared to the white plastic.

ONLY90S - I'm just posting what I use gyro wise

Tday - What's the yellow things holding your tail rotor servo in place?

Those are zip ties. The 6001T servo is a fraction too large to fit the frame holes. Click on the picture and you'll see the rear holes fastened to the frame and the front ears just a tad long. The zip ties is something I saw from a German guy's Lepton. Since then you can get the brackets that holds the tail servo inside the frame sides but I'm not wanting to mess since it works great.

Tday - I've seen it done that way a couple times, I was just harrassing you about it. I went with the 9650, it works for me.

ONLY90S - This is the mount that Readyheli sells that brings the 9254 into the frame. http://www.readyheli.com/Lepton_Ful...bulmer_tail.htm

Lepton vs Trex 500

I see allot of experimenting with different lipo's and motors on the Trex 500.The lepton on the other hand is pretty much right on from the start with the recomended setup..That said,I feel the Lepton is a better Heli...The quality of Hirobo is hard to beat.Sure the parts are a little higher for the Lepton, but when you think of what you have to spend to get the 500 to fly anywhere close to the Lepton, there isn't much differance...Yes you have to buy the motor and esc for the Lepton, but then again the 500 owners are replacing theres..

I don't agree

There's only two motors being used in the TRex,
the Align motor (in different KV options) and the Scorpion

With the Lepton we have the following motors to choose from:
Hirobo, Axi, 4 * Kora, 3 * Hyperion, Hacker and a few others
The Lepton runs on 3S, 4S, 5S and 6S

I've tried 4 different motors myself

The Lepton is quality
The parts are a lot more expensive than the Trex500
The main shaft is more expensive than a main shaft in my Freya 90

Each to their own - they are both great helis

A friend of mine just got his 500 from the mail, and asked me to build it for him. While me on the other hand, is still waitng for the ingredients to rebuild my Lepton. It won't be long 'til I have a good idea about how this two would compare against each other.......

When I get a few bucks, Im ripping the 401 9254 combo out, and putting a 611 in there after seeing a buddies fly ROCK SOLID!!

Ready heli makes an awesome brace for a full size tail servo, relocates servo to the inside of the frame. It also stiffens up rear of frame too.(broke mine at the same spot in a crash)

Next look at Scorpion motors...it rocked out the other day. Cant remember which model it was though...will look today. But POWER!! On 4s too.

I dont have 500 yet.

Question for Learn To Fly

The full size servo mount. Are you talking about one in a Lepton or a Align 500 ( I was under the impression that this heli was boom mounted)?

Just my thoughts. I have both the TRex 500 and have the Lepton (for more than a year).

I've flown the Lepton on 4s, 5s and 6s. Currently running a 6s Kora motor on it and 3000K head speed. It is a rocket in forward flight and is very stable. I agree that the Hirobo craftsmanship is stellar and the heli, even after a year of flying, is still tight.

However, IMHO, the Lepton is not as aggressive. Although running 3K head speed on 6s on the Lepton, the TRex 500 is still more aggressive. I was running a 16T pinion with the stock 500 motor on 6s and flying about 2800 head speed and this setup not only had more power and would bog less than my current setup, it would do flips, rolls, etc much more aggressively than the Lepton. The Lepton needs to be flown gently, again IMHO, because the if you're not too careful, the head will bog and you'll lose tail authority. It's a problem I've had and many have had with the Lepton.

I like 6s the best on the Lepton. Even with using the top hole in the main shaft when securing the main gear, the Lepton still is not as aggressive. For me, the TRex 500 is more of a 3D machine than the Lepton. I'm now running a Scorpion motor on my 500 and it's a significant upgrade. I got a PM from Lucien at Innov8tivedesigns who makes the Scorpion and they will be coming out with a motor for the Lepton soon. I'm hoping to get that to compare the two helis again with a better power system in the Lepton.

Everybody at our electric gathering agrees that my Lepton on 4S has a better climb and more agressive cyclics than the T500 on 6S

I don't think you can generalize - it depends on the specific battery, pinion, motor and blade setup - rather than the heli

The 500 class is a ripper

docjoe,
It happens on my Lepton too.

Jafa,
I fly my Lepton for around 6 months with Funkey 430mm. It flies great. However, I just changed to fly MAH425mm 1 month ago, I would say it flies 20% more power then Funkey430mm. I like it alot. But I made mistakes twice during doing tictocs, it bogs and loses the tail authority. Luckily I have enough time and height to hover it back.

I fly >2900rpm HS with 6S 2000mah, Hacker A30-12XL, 18T. Do you have any idea I can avoid it happens again? or any improvement I can make?

Many thanks,

Qooo - MARZ

I was thinking about the extended boom. It may be something to try.
