e-Hirobo SRB Quark - Lepton - XRB Coaxial > Hirobo Lepton VS Align 500

Going to be getting back into electric and want to get a mid class helicopter. Leaning more toward the Lepton but would like your thoughts on its plus/minus versus the Align 500.

Also will the Lepton accept Futaba S9257 Servos on the cyclic.

Battery For Lepton

Also does any one know if the Thunder Power 5S 3850 battery will fit?

That Bat should fit, I measured out FP 5S 3400Mah and they fit fine with room to spare.

I've only see the T500 hover once in person and I prefure my Lepton. It is much more quite and I love the quality of the Lepton kit over the T500. Lepton also has the belt going over the main shaft, and the tail servo actually goes in the frame (Not on sliders on the tail boom). Just some of the reasons I like my Lepton more than the T500.

Oh, also on 2 3S 2100Mah packs in Parallel on the Lepton you can fly for 7-8 Mins. On 2 3S 2100Mah packs in Series on the T500 you can fly for 4-5 Mins.

Just my 2 Cents

PS: Sorry, forgot the servos...Not sure on 9257, but I did see one guy do a small mod to fit 9650s and those are suppose to be same size as 9257s.

Lepton is more stable to me. I love my lepton, but parts cost too much.

It's difficult to fit the S9257 on the Lepton
You need to make up an adaptor plate

Two guys at my field had their T500's out yesterday
With the stock motor, ESC and 6S FP 2100/2500
the headspeed was only just 2600
The heli was no rocket in a climbout - just mild
and the headspeed bleed off in simple rolls and flips
My Lepton has so much more authority in flips and rolls

I convinced one pilot to back the collective pitch off from 12.5
back to 10 degrees max - it flipped and rolled more comfortably
(did not bleed so much headspeed off)

I can't remember which pinion they were using, 12/13 ???
There is no way you could go up in pinion teeth
cos the power system does not have enough in reserve to drive it
And if you go down in pinion teeth to make life easier for the motor
you will be dropping the head speed

I think the T500 quality is fine and it flies nicely
But work has to be done to fine a better power system
The expectation was that 6S would be hot
but it's actually very mild indeed
(for me I would deem it unacceptable)

You need to get a power system that is up around 2800

The Lepton has very high quality components
(I've done over 100 flights and have not worn anything out)
The kit purchase price is ok but the parts price is too high

I think they are both great helis
I just love the 500 class
Good stability, good cyclic performance, good visability
Battery prices are acceptable (compared to monster 12S setups)

Thanks

Hey thanks for the input. I am going to go with the Lepton which is what I was looking at to start as I currently fly an EVO90. Can not wait to build one up and look forward to the build quality of an EX kit.

One more question.

I was talking to someone at MRC who did not seem to know to much; can you run +/- 10 of pitch? The man I talked to said that the kit instructions say +/- 8 for 3D.

We are running +/- 11.5 degrees of collective
You can load the engine too much with that
so be careful with the collective but it's fun

Get the RotorTech/CarbonTech/Funkey 3D blades with yellow/black scheme - they are fun

I run +/-10 in normal and idle 1
Then +/- 11.5 in idle 2 for some brief fun at the start of the flight on fresh batteries

Run a S9254 on the tail

Use Gaui 550 skids to get ground clearance

I'll second the Gaui 550 struts!! If you are going to use the 9254 on the tail, you're going to want to get the mount from ReadyHeli for it so you might just as well get the Gaui 550 struts while you're at it.

i run +/-12 on the pitch. I fly a 4s 2400 pack i think and i get only 2.5 minutes of extreme 3d. hahahaha on the lepton ofcourse. LEPTON FTW!!

Actually the S9257 fits the Lepton perfectly
I forgot about the Hirobo slider plate
(because I was using a full sized S9253)

I would run a 9257 on the tail, I ran a 9650 on my Rexy450 and put the new 9257 on my Lepton and it rocks. It is night and day difference over that 9650.

I'll 3rd those Gaui 550 struts, it gives it some much needed ground clearence. Also make sure you get some bigger tail blades, the stock ones will not give you enough tail authority.

Enjoy, its a great flying Heli!

Ahh Yes, tail blades, I just got 3 sets of blades from RC Heli Works, 68mm plastic blades and the Aluminum Radius Block.

The blades look really stout. I just haven't had a chance to fly them yet.

Let me know if you see a big difference with that Radius Block. I may need to pick one of those up

Those tail blades look nice, but I like by MAH's

Thanks Again

Your input is very helpful and appreciated. I am thinking of going with the JR 770 3D Gyro. Has anyone used this on a Lepton. What are you running for a gyro on your Leptons.

ALSO

I like running the Logitech 6100 on my 90 but not sure if you can fit a full size servo in the Lepton or if it is even worth doing.

One more thing, you can use TRex 500 tail blade to replace the standard Lepton blade, guess it is a lot easier to find than others, and definitely cheaper than the optional Hirobo carbon tail blade. The Hirobo carbon tail blade looks very nice and do the job very well though.
