e-Electric Conversions > 12S or 10S for a 90 size model

Just started building (converting) a milly 1 to a Dyna-X that is going to be electric powered.
Got an Actro 32-3 motor and CC110HV speed controller for it, and can gear it for either 12S (2 X 4900mah 6S packs) or 10S (3700mah FP packs)
Would like your input on best choice for this size machine based on experience etc.
Thanks

If you have room for the 4900 packs, the extra weight over the 3700 packs doesn't bother you and you can gear it for 12S, thats what I would use. Higher voltage = lower amp draw and longer fight times, unless your into hard 3D and want or need higher head speed. High head speeds love to consume packs.

I think you need to change the capacities around and go with 3700 12S or 4900 for 10S.

You'll go through the 3700s in short order and I mean short flights and low cycle life.

The 4900s on 12s will last longer for both since they won't be nearly as stressed as the 3700s at 10S.

I understand where your coming from, its just I have 5 X 3700 10S packs, and 4 X 4900 6S packs, so dont really want to invest in any more packs just yet.
Also, I'm used to shortish flight times as I only fly electric now, so flight time isnt really an issue.

What you'll need to do is monitor the temps on the 3700s and see how hot they get.

When they get to about 130* this is time to stop.

If they go through 80% and don't get that high they'll give you decent life.

If they get that hot faster time your flights to the point where they and they'll last a lot longer.

I'm leaning towards 2 X 6S packs but have ordered pinions to suit both 10 and 12S
Have also got an eagle tree with temp sensor, so will strap that to the machine for feedback.

I have a 32-3 in my MD500. Shoot for about 12:1 gearing on 10S and a little higher for 12S. On 10S with 95main/9pinion you'll end up at about 1900-2000ish.

12s Vs 10s..

Well...I am no expert on 90 sized electrics but I have been playing with an electric Stratus for about a year now. here's my setup

Actro 32-3
Powerjazz
10:1 gearing
2100 RPMS
vblade 690's

--------------

I tried 10s and it was okay

Then I went to 12s 5000mah and WOAH!!!!! crazy power for a 90 sized heli..

Even 12s 3700 is MUCH better than 10s 3700 but 12s 5000mah is EVEN BETTER...

That's just my opinion though..

Here's my heli..

That's about right. At 10:1 your getting 2100 and I'm getting 1900 at 11.8. I thought mabe he might be worried about making his batteries last though? Have you ever checked an inflight recording of your amp draw? My setup was in a Rap90 that only weighed 10lbs with battery. At that weight and 1900 it was a rocket!!

Henseleit 90 size XL-E here, Actro 32-4, Powerjazz 63, 12s 4900. Pulled 5hp, 90amps on a 13 degree pitch climbout (2100 headspeed) according to my eagletree. It's a monster.

Jag72, where did your throttle curve end up with 12S and 10:1 ratio?
