Wats a Mort.............

Good question.
A Mort could be a new term for a person who does not fullfil his commitments but maintains the benefits without punishment!
Now 18 months and no sign of any canopies or refunds. He ows me $296.70 !!!!

Just double checked and its been so long ago I forgot that I actually ordered 3 canopies and parted with $388.50 Via PayPal on the 25th August 2006.

Maybe it should be "Mortified" why re-invent the wheel

I tried to contact mort today to see if he needed any help finishing up some canopies so his customers don't go on a witch hunt. He is my competition and this thread only helps the other painters out there, but almost $400 for over a year. is unheard of. Anyhow I got one of those automated responses back from his email provider asking me to fill out a form and he will approve me send him emails. Odd, not a good way to communicate with possible customers. Anyhow, after 10 years in the business, I have met a ton of nice people, some I even consider good friends. I never want to see anyone loose money and if you did order 3 canopies please let me know what they are and I will try and hook you up with them. All I ask is you cover the shipping and you pay it forward to someone else in the heli community.

There are several other painters out there that frequent this board, and I know John is not the only customer burnt by this guy. Lets get over with and be done with it. I know Mort is not in the best health, maybe its time to hang the mask up.

J.C's Canopies

Proxyman
I just PM'd you but for the sake of the forum I would like to repeat: that this is an extremely kind offer but I could not hold you to it , however I would very much appreciate it if you manage to speak with Mort and get an idea if there is a chance of getting my canopies or refund.
Thanks very much.

I think its right and proper that people should help each other through crisis and it should not just be about bringing people to justice, until you know the full story (which none of us seem to),
At the same time people must not be allowed to steal, It would have been so easy just to refund my and others PayPal when the going got tuff, now its resulted in a reputation that will be hard if not impossible to come back from.

I don't really see any way that I will ever see my canopies or money but I really do wish Mort well and hope he recovers from whatever ails him, though he must know that I really can't afford to lose that money and the way he has behaved is Wrong!

Respect J.C..

Proxyman, You are a true gentleman, Sir.

This, however , was a business transaction. Those engaged in business , have to draw a line between their two lives.

Their business life should be totally ethical and unimpeachable, private life always risks affecting business, therefore it should be conducted with discretion and prudence.

It would seem that Mort has not just stepped, but jumped headlong over that line,by appropriating his business' finances for personal use.

A portion of the money sent to hom,was for materials (canopies, paint, consumables) a portion for overheads (premises, power, services, insurance, maintenance and replacements)

lastly, the leftover bit was Mort's wage and his profit.

He knowingly "dipped his hand in the till" That is very wrong and he would have known that.

No matter how pressing his need for cash, stealing off trusting people is not the way forward.

Mort "was" apparently a "stand-up guy"..several persons sprang to his defence, when the first problems became public.

Refer to RON LUND...also a stand-up guy....when HIS train hit the buffers, HE IMMEDIATELY updated the situation, publically.

Many mails of support poured in,including offers of help, legal advice, premises, finance. etc. Ron has obviously spent a long time in the business and built huge goodwill....that goodwill was reciprocated in spades when his back hit the wall.

Mort, however, just bit the hands that were feeding him. foolish man, -Perhaps he was embarassed by his incapacity or inability to cope. That was the time to trust his friends, be honest and seek to straighten things out
(I'm sure the Christians on the bible-thumper's thread would have turned-to! )

Instead ,Mort dug a bigger pit of lies and deceit. It's a sad story of mismanagement...the unhappy people out of pocket can take comfort that they helped a fellow man when he was at the bottom.-Not their intention, I know, but be honest, Lads, these are Man-toys, you don't NEED a fancy canopy (you don't NEED a canopy(or a Heli) full-stop!

So, John, I don't accept that you couldn,t AFFORD to lose that cash, you unwittingly gave it away to a bloke on hard times..if he'd been an honest bloke, Id like to think we would have all helped him anyway.

Fair Do's Bagobits but there are many ways in which you "can't Afford", if it's financial then I wouldn't be buying toys in the first place. and let’s remember I was not betting on a horse! at the time I ordered these canopies as far as I was concerned Just Canopies had a good reputation and a lot of people were saying good things, so I was not supporting an ailing business but buying a product which was worth the money I was paying for it.
I am not a charity and "Can't Afford" just to give money away for no return (the same as most other people).

The purpose of this post was to try and get Mort to pull his finger out and or to make people in our community aware of his misdealings.
I hope we can achieve at least the latter so that his ailing business will fall by the wayside and leave the way clear for honest, reputable painters to do the job.

Respect J.C..

Decided to read this. I found that there are 31 post. And only 21 people posted. So how many of the 21 order from this person? I saw the Proxyman name in a thread called Canopy-FX or something so that must be this Joe guy so I don't think he ordered but hey you never know.

Another UK victim here. I have had 3 canopies from Mort in the past and although the wait has been an extended one (6 months), the quality was well worth waiting for, pure class.
However when I got my new R90 well over two years ago I wanted something special and different. So I bought a full carbon canopy and sent if off to Mort. I'm now $200 down on the canopy I sent him and $230 down on the paint, it will be two years next month (June). Just like everyone else I get zero response from multiple email addresses, or phone calls.

I paint canopies on the side and some have taken a bit longer than usual due to either work or family issues. I always respond to PMs and the buyers are very understanding, but Mort is ridiculous with no communication. What gets me is that if he is that far backed up, spend a little less time posting usesless posts and more time painting.
