| Proxyman, You are a true gentleman, Sir.
This, however , was a business transaction. Those engaged in business , have to draw a line between their two lives.
Their business life should be totally ethical and unimpeachable, private life always risks affecting business, therefore it should be conducted with discretion and prudence.
It would seem that Mort has not just stepped, but jumped headlong over that line,by appropriating his business' finances for personal use.
A portion of the money sent to hom,was for materials (canopies, paint, consumables) a portion for overheads (premises, power, services, insurance, maintenance and replacements)
lastly, the leftover bit was Mort's wage and his profit.
He knowingly "dipped his hand in the till" That is very wrong and he would have known that.
No matter how pressing his need for cash, stealing off trusting people is not the way forward.
Mort "was" apparently a "stand-up guy"..several persons sprang to his defence, when the first problems became public.
Refer to RON LUND...also a stand-up guy....when HIS train hit the buffers, HE IMMEDIATELY updated the situation, publically.
Many mails of support poured in,including offers of help, legal advice, premises, finance. etc. Ron has obviously spent a long time in the business and built huge goodwill....that goodwill was reciprocated in spades when his back hit the wall.
Mort, however, just bit the hands that were feeding him. foolish man, -Perhaps he was embarassed by his incapacity or inability to cope. That was the time to trust his friends, be honest and seek to straighten things out (I'm sure the Christians on the bible-thumper's thread would have turned-to! )
Instead ,Mort dug a bigger pit of lies and deceit. It's a sad story of mismanagement...the unhappy people out of pocket can take comfort that they helped a fellow man when he was at the bottom.-Not their intention, I know, but be honest, Lads, these are Man-toys, you don't NEED a fancy canopy (you don't NEED a canopy(or a Heli) full-stop!
So, John, I don't accept that you couldn,t AFFORD to lose that cash, you unwittingly gave it away to a bloke on hard times..if he'd been an honest bloke, Id like to think we would have all helped him anyway. |
