Contest Flying

It's basically Pattern for helicopters.

Read about AMA contest flying HERE

F3C is the Federation Aeronautic Internationale (FAI) designation code for precision model helicopter aerobatics competition. Similar to AMA classes 1-3, but harder. It's considered the top class of competition.

Cheers,

are there any videos around that will show what is being done in this kind of flight? i have been practicing getting my flying down to being precise movements and i think this kind of practice will help me going to 3d besides its kind of fun to do precision movements

This is Baron Johnson flying AMA Class I at the US Nats last year. The first video is the hovering manuevers.

The second is the flying manuevers.

This is Wayne Mann flying F3C Schedule A Hovering Manuevers:

Is there any info besides the AMA rules that better describes what each maneuver is?

Where would I find the current ama sequences? Are there unknowns?
Is a 90 size mostly perferred for competing?
Thanks Dylan

The competition regulations can be found at the AMA's website. There are no "unknown" maneuvers... everything is clearly spelled out.

okay sorry, I guess I figured they were in Aresti, or score sheet format with K-factors like Pattern. Looking at class I looks so simple but I know to be done correctly and score well its a challenge.

I guess there is no S.I.G. (Special Interest Group) for heli's like planes. i.E. The NSCRA, National society of R/C aerobatics, Pattern. NSRCA

Thanks again

Yes there is... IRCHA (International Radio-Controlled Helicopter Association). Technically, they're a SIG to the AMA, but I don't know how much involvement - if any - IRCHA has with the FAI scene, although I do know that they'll be helping in the organization and operation of the 2009 WC's in Muncie.
