| I just flew my 400 for the second time. The first time I was really stupid and set up my throttle curve in stunt but not my pitch curves! Checklists are my friend. I was kinda surprised to see my heli spool up and gently rise into the air. I was not able to lower the throttle and land! I hit my idle up and the heli struck the ground. The mast broke and the main rotor blades went wizzing away. The only broken parts were the mast and a pitch link. Even the blades were fine! I ordered a red metal mast and programmed the idle up pitch.
My test this morning was uneventful and I can see I am going to love this little guy. It is really stable in hover once trimmed. That metal head most likely made a diference. My blades were in perfect track and flybar is really free. It was cool this morning. I am running the align 430L on just 12t and this is great for stability and rather gentle flying. A good low stress combination. The battery and motor were cool after flight. The 400 is a winner and good flyer. The biggest problem is getting a larger pack to fit and maintain balance. I solved this by making a ply battery try which goes between the LG underneath. It has velcro and a velcro strap. This allows perfect balance and is an idea borrowed from the eco 8.
I had the MX450 and just sent it back. I had problems with the tail slider. I spoke with HeliMax and did some work on it but still was not satisfied. I just got the Trex 450S aluminum frame from Heli-Direct and will build that next.
