e-Electric Conversions > Hirobo Huey Conversion HELP

Hi can anyone help, I'm about to convert a Hirobo .30 Huey to run on LiPos but don't know where to start in terms of which motor and speed controller to use. Has anyone already done this conversion?

Am I right in thinking the Huey is based on the same kit as the Lama (Sceadu)??

I've been told the pinion cannot be changed due to space available, so I have to be quite accurate with motor choice.
Any help would be gratefully received.

yes it is the same mechanics as the lama based around the shuttle (not the sceadu)
look at the posts for the lama for the motor to use
i'm about to electrify a shuttle and put it in a hughes 500 and use the century swift motor on 6 cell lipo's this will give me around a max head speed of around 1800/2000rpm
i am using the shuttle electric conversion that is available in the usa shops (i purchased it from ebay in the uk)
i don't know if this kit will fit the hirobo scale 30 mechanics
as you've said your stuck with the pinion size

Maybe first decide what voltage packs you want to use i.e 5s or 6s or..

Then you can work out what Kv motor to choose in order to get the correct headspeed. I have not seen the Huey but have details of a shuttle conversion in my gallery if its any use to you.

Have you flightpacks or other equipment already which you want to use or are you starting from scratch?

look on
www.ewtech.com/Merchant2/merchant.m...ct_Code=QUISP72
this is the same conversion that i'm using and you keep the clutch so you don't need to use soft start on the esc

if this web site doesn't open look in Bert Kammer reply in 600mm blades on a shuttle plus
dated 02/15/2005

as said choose the kv rating for your motor as to what batteries your using
if it the same gear ratio as the shuttle (i think it should be) then its 9.625:1 you can only expect about 80% of the head speed that it works out to due to mechanical losses

i'm using a 6 cell set up as thats the lipo's i've got for my sceadu and morley bell 47 electric

The"mechanics" are the same as the Shuttle, but the frames are totally different

I'm following Wilerbee's (search for his posts on RR) lead on my Hirobo UH-1b conversion, except that I using the Hacker B50-23XL instead of the Jeti motor. Also, I'm using 10S A123 cells as I don't want to remove them from the fuse for charging, nor do I want my ship going up in flames. The Sceadu conversion parts from Hirobo are expensive..I found my kit on eBay. You'll have to make a slight modification to the frame to fit the new mount if you go this route.

try looking at Bell Bloke's lama conversion as this will be the same modification as the huey

with my shuttle i ended up fitting a raptor 550e motor with 1050 kv at 80% throttle I've got a head speed of 1900 rpm , a little too high for scale so i'll just turn the throttle down a bit
