Is it at all possible to use a dural boom from any other manufacturer instead of the pricy Hirobo carbon extended boom??

The problem is finding another manufacturer that makes a longer boom that is 15mm in diameter. I have found people that sell aluminum tubing that is 15mm in diameter, but the minimum purchase is $275.00. Kinda hard to justify $275.00 in aluminum tubing for one tail boom.

I have read recently either here on RR or some other site that the SJM500 has a CF boom that will fit. It is actually longer than the hirobo extended boom so you will have to cut it shorter.

I was hoping that maybe a boom off the HDX or a Gaui Hurricane would fit. I really do not want to use a carbon fiber boom. I just have not had good luck using them.

I beleive you can strecth the Lepton by using the boom from the SJM500 by Rc-Tek. The Boom diameter is 15mm and the lenght is 460mm. The cost is $8.60 from Hi-Model.com. Its olnly a 5mm stretch, I dont know if that would be worth the trouble.

shooter75 - That's a nice thought, but you need a 15mm in diameter aluminum tube that is over 500mm in length to use the longer lepton tail belt for the stretch kit.

The standard SJM500 boom is 460mm in length. Our extended SJM500 CF boom is 15mm x 540mm. We also offer the belt to match, but they sell out fast.

Scott

The SJM500 belt works fine on the Lepton. Get the extended boom and the extended belt. You will have to cut about 3/8" off of the length of the boom and drill the holes for the tailcase screws, but it worked fine and it MUCH less expensive than the Hirobo parts.

If you go extended boom, you probably should also extend the boom supports. Get Trex 600 boom supports and cut them to the length you want. They are also cheap.

tmblwd,

The boom is SJUP 5001, and the belt is SJUP 5002. I don't have current prices but the two together were on the order of $20 total.
