after reading other posts regarding flybarless heli`s and how they fly , i thought i`d try it , so stripped the head down lastnight and have flown this morning , responsive is the word , look forward to trying more , but may fit gyro`s , not sure yet , test time i think

Hiya Raz, see you made it in to this Forum :-)

Man if you says its responsive that's saying something. Shouldn't have too may problems flying it but it's not going to have that locked in feeling without the gyro's. Best to get the mechanical setup right as well so you limit the pitch range from about +- 25 degrees you can prob get at the moment to around +-15, (reduce servo throw, Increase pitch link from centre of hub to around 30mm)

Few threads on this mate but setup in rate mode and then have a degree of HH for wazzing around.

Nearly there with mine now, just waiting on a Swash driver which has found its way to the folks only 200 miles away doh

Keep up the good work,

Majic

Lookin good bro, id be real interested to know your final setup that works best, on the r50. Anyhowz,, good luck m8, ive been down the flybarless route, and they can get a little slippery without gyros!!LOL
Cheers, CHRIS.

Converted my R50 to flybarless last year. Flew it both with and w/o gyros. It was more plesant to fly w/gyros. Rate felt just like it had the flybar but more responsive. HH was a whole new feeling. I did find that I prefered HH once I got used to it. Taking off and landing in rate made for a bit more comfort.

I did find it easier to manage with the link balls moved in farther than you've got them in your pic.

Ive said it for a long time now, just about all flybarless platforms are flyable(or should be) with no gain...this is very important. The control system give you adjustable feel and gets rid of the negative flight chars.

I havent tried a flybarless 90 sized machine but as we go up in size the easier it is to fly without stabalization. The stabalization makes takes away any bad and only leaves you with a solid/stable machine with fast crisp cyclic response when you need it.

flew this weekend and dinged her rebuilt saturday night using 620mm blades and a few other adjustments , moved servo horn ball on elevator nearer to centre , little bit expo on el - al and she hovers well , put 5% gain on aileron and 10 on elevator and she felt better , need time up the field to try hovering with a better headspeed cos i`m limited in my little garden and neighbours, then its circuit time

heres how the settings come out for a nice hover (so far)

AILERON
servo balls from center of horn 13mm
gyro at 5% on non HH
expo at -20% on ff9
end points 30/30
limit on gyro (pot) futaba 401 -120
no delay

ELEVATOR
servo ball from center of horn 10mm
gyro at 10% on non HH
expo at -35% on ff9
limit on gyro (pot) futaba 401 -100

PITCH
servo ball 13mm from centre of horn to furthest hole out on pitch arm
pitch is +/- 10
cyclic pitch aileron 9 degrees each way
" " elevator 10 degrees each way

headspeed is unknown as of yet cos i`m not flicking on the gov quite yet.

BLADES 620mm
BLADE GRIPS NOT REVERSED YET

will carry on playing when poss

Removing flybar from a small heli' like a Century or Trex?

Interested in this no fly bar talk. Has anyone tried it on a 450? I noticed how 'twitchy' these little heli's can be even when set up pretty well. I fancy trying out this idea but, maybe it's not advisable?

I like to spend everyday as though it were my last; in bed drifting in and out of consciousness!

I did it once on a micro. Yikes was it twitchy. Virtually uncontrollable.

I have working quite a bit with a flybarless 450. If you do a conv. similar to what youve seen on line with the stock blades the 450 is almost unflyable. With stabalization it is flyable but not very fun(lightning fast). I had to do some serious surgery to the blades to make the heli preform well through hard 3D manuvers. Again the key is the heli must be "flyable" before a stabalization system(I can only speak for the system Ive designed) will make the heli really fly well for all types of flying.

new tweaks from ths mornings flights in strong winds , expo removed on alieron , HH now on elevator at 20 percent using only 5 percent expo , pitch ball on horn will be moved , very soft around centre stick , may move balls out again , more tests first tho

What endpoints are you using on the cyclic channels?

You've got to keep in mind that the endpoints are commanding the gyro's rates to the servos. I had mine closer to 100 on ail/ele. It was a bit too fast on the sticks but I began having engine troubles before I got around to playing with it.

Just make sure you use the gyro to set travel limits then adjust the endpoints to get the responsivness you like.

How do you like flying in HH vs rate? I found the R50 would hold very well even in gusty winds.
