Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > RAPTOR 50 What Head Speed Do You Like To Run With 620mm Blades?

I have a Titan running an OS 50 Hyper, and picked up a set of 620mm Maverick blades back when 600's were hard to come by. What head speed do you like to run and any thoughts or tips on running 620's?
Thanks,
BrentC

That can't be good!

Same head speed as the 600s, nothing special to do. Cyclics will be a bit slower, autos will be a bit better.

I was using the GCT620mm. Good punch but bad cyclic and my heli was bogging in tight tic-tocs. Climbouts were exceptionally good though. I heard the GCT are the same blades as the Maverick blades, but not exactly too sure on that. Anyway, I ran 1920rpm with the 8.73 gearing. 620mm blades will load your engine more than 600mm(ok, even idiots know that...but the point is...),so you have to be more gentle with the sticks when flying with the 620mm because banging the sticks in a un-cordinated manner will bog the heli bad.

2000 RPM with the 8.73 (96/11) gears = happiness with either 600's or 620's.

I agree the Mavrikk 620 pro's bog a lot faster than the Radix 600's but both auto about the same. I think I like the Radix 600's better for auto's but I haven't flown them back-to-back enough. I just picked up a set of NHP 620's though I haven't tried them yet. looking forward to the spring.

Ideally with 620s, you are best off using a gear ratio of 8.73 in order to make best advantage of the engine's peak power band at 17k, giving you an optimum HS of 1950.

The Mavrikk G5Pro WC 620 are a really nice blade. The chord is wider and we have found that it produces a nicer flying blade.

head speed

i run sab 620 140 grams at 2300, on a ratio of 8.50 this allows the TT redline to rev up into its rpm range since its a high timed motor, the sabs are a wide cord blade like the mavrikk, like brian stated you get more lift with less pitch which allows for less bogging and faster in puts on the sticks, and i run plactic grips with a TT metal head. the only thing i didnt like about the 8.70 ratio was once you where over 2000 rpms the motor would fall on its face in hard 3d its to tall of a gearing at high rpms the lower gearing allows the motors to say loaded in 3d flying, its all about how you like to fly either gearing will work, you just need to figure out your needs

Thanks all for the replies! That is what I am finding,(that the collective is slower, but autos are better). Fun blades though, I like em

I would think that @2300 with the OS you'd be replacing the rear bearing every couple of gallons (19,500 RPM @ 8.5 gears). better have your links and all nice and tight. I have to say I really liked flying at 2150 when I tried that. One thing I've noted with very high headspeed is the tail grip bearings don't last long. Dino, do you run anything different on the tail for that headspeed? That's one of the main reasons I went to 8.7 and back to 2000 - to reduce tearing up the bearings.

Can't wait to see how that redline runs - sure looks nice.

tail

nope its a stock tail with the ss tail hub that comes in the titan kit i run 95mm tails on it with a 611 with the gain set at 35% hold like a rock, as allways if i touch the tail hard on the ground i change out the tail hub and grip bearings but i have only done that once this year

I used to run 2200 Hs with mavrikk 620's,I wasnt hyperized at the time(tt 50) but I made the switch to align and now run 600 radix.Even w/o a hyper i noticed a big difference,The autos were a dream come true,And it did bog down durring flips and rolls,But the 2200 helped that alot..(yes I have metal grips)

My "Titanium" Titan (one of the first run w/Titanium stickers) came with a PV0151 hub. Did your Titan come with the PV0499 hub stock? AFAIK the only kit that comes with the PV0499 is the 903D. Did TT finally start shipping PV0499 with other kits?

Once you get over 2K headspeed the cyclics work alot better. Also the OS50 really likes being wound up!

yeah mate

I got my son to give me a hand to set it up tonight normal 1650 and idle 1 1850 seems to work...... I just brought a new transmitter a JR PCM 9Xii very nice radio actually I am now rehashing all my pitch curves ect turning into quite a job
1650 seems a nice head speed for spool up and hovering..
