Hopefully the software will be posted soon so I can use it.
Judging by the packaging and lack of updated radio software I get the feeling they really pushed getting this thing out in a hurry.

Oh and another screwdriver

Post some pictures of your installation in a heli. I was expecting the RX antennas to be longer. If you only had the s/w update to go with it !

The antennas are 122mm or 4.8 inches long. The receiver weighs 21g or .74 oz. Size is 52mm [2-1/16"] x 37.5mm [1-1/2"] x 16mm [5/8"]

Looks like it will it in the case with a slight amount of foam trimming so you don't have to remove anything once it's installed on the radio.

The module is totally protected by the carrying handle but you will have to be careful with the antenna.

Mike, what do you think about the quality of the components? Are those modules well made?

I've received better packing on used electronics from the classifieds here. Still looks clean on the 14MZ and not to bulky.

I'm not really happy with those short antennas. I may have to mount the RX on the gyro plate and re-route the entire wire bundle. Then you need to keep oil off of the RX.

Components definitely look like typical Futaba quality. No issue there. The only part that would be of concern is the antenna looks like it could get broke off if you aren't paying attention. It does look easy to replace though. It does fold over for storage.

Check out the balance with the old antenna stowed..

It's unbelievable they can ship these things from overseas and then distribute them to customers faster than they can post the update on their website. Someone is asleep at the wheel....

I found this posted on another site:

"There is software upgrades required of the 12FG, 12Z and 14MZ to be able to utilize the 2.4GHz modules...these will be posted BOTH on the Futaba Flyers Club website, and the Futaba 2.4GHz website.

Unfortunately, due to the Holidays, they are not on these sites. These will be posted on BOTH sites as quickly as possible after the holidays and everyone returns to work.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.

Sincerely,

Funny they had no holiday issues getting the money from me

Lucky I'm home just relaxing over a few beers and really don't care about it too much. As long as they get us the update soon, which we all no they have no choice, everything will be just fine.

Funny how things work like that....

I wonder if the warranty starts when you buy it or when you can actually use it.

I can't believe they didn't know this was coming. It's also hard to believe they couldn't post the update ahead of time either.

T-spin and others...

Before posting links to upgrades take a closer look as we don't want anybody trying something they shouldn't.

There is no update available yet as of today. Your link to Ripmax has the old March 2007 update for 12Z.

Yes there is an update there for the 12FG but those of us with the 14Z and 12Z cannot use it.

Antenna

On the point of the TX antenna, I believe it says the antenna should be 90 to the TX during operation. Never have the antenna pointing straight at the model. Also, on the RX, the two antenna wires should be as close to 90 degrees apart as possible. Again this is for best reception.

Kevin has a good point about the antenna. Hanging from the neckstrap, you want to have the heli 90 degrees to the antenna most of the time. That looks to me like pointing the TX antenna down from horizontal about 30 to 45 degrees. I have seen a lot of Specktrum pilots with the antenna up 45 degrees from horizontal which points the antenna more or less directly at the heli.

Yes, but the 12FG update is already on the US Futaba website. While it's unlikely the update is different it's entirely possible and folks should always use the update posted by their local Futaba service provider.
