e-Electric Motors & Controllers > Castle Creation ESC problems

Hi Guys,

I followed setup as per Finless Bob's HV 85 setup video

Last week was my first flight of the 600 and after about 20 sec into a hover the motor cut and would not re-boot due to the HV 85, the Esc flashes few sec when connected but no beeping sound.

I then replaced it with a HV 110 and this has worked very well the past few days but today it cut and will not work either, its doing the same thing as the HV 85.

Here is my ESC program set up

Cut off voltage 30v
cut off type soft cut off
throttle type heli govener high
motor timing high advance
govener gain low 20
current limiting disabled

I can't see I'm doing anything wrong

What do you guys think?

Has anyone else had this kinda problem

I have similar problem with my Trex600 with HV85. I disable the cutoff function by programming it to somthing like 12V. Your cutoff voltage seem high. What battery are you using? Weak or older batteries can have voltage drop quick during a quick climb out.

Hi Dennis.

I'm using a 10s 37v pack 22c
I don't think 30v is to high of a cut off. Either of the esc's are working, they light up but will not power up the heli.

I am using 6S 22V pack Align batteries. Cutoff was set to around 18V and still cut in 2 minutes. End up crash my Trex600 the first time. Your problem seems to be related to the cutoff voltage. Try to lower this cutoff voltage. Whereas, there is no issue at all if I use
Airthunder battery.

Do you mean the ESC light up and no longer can power up the heli? Did you set the travel limit or ATV of your throttle channel? I have to set my X9303 to high 93% and low stick at 123% to have the HV85 acknowledge the low stick, or else nothing happen.

Hope I can help and good luck.

Hi Dennis

Yes my throttle ATV's are set high 98 low 120.

Can someone tell me if these Esc's are burned out. They light up but wont power up, I've tried re-setting them but still no joy.

hi i have had 3 hv 85's in my logo 600 3d and they all started fine then cut out and then the light just flashes. this lights flashing with no sound means there is no signal being received frm the rx.
the cause of this error is due to static build up from the boom due to the belt running inside. the fix is to replace the hv 85 under warranty and making a small hole in the boom and running a ground wire to the earth on your new sped controller and this will not happen again.
i done two hv 85's in one week and the third the next and the fourth one im running is fine.

JR,

We are having the same issue with a CC110HV on a prototype Bergen E-Observer. The ESC shut down 5 minutes into the second flight. Lights are on, but no tone on the motor, nor operation.

We are also using 10S with a 30V cutoff. We just sent the ESC back to CC for warranty exchange. We are using the Plettenburg 370.

Chris Bergen had told me that if the 110 was going to work, it would through the first few flights. If not, that it would fail early in use. We had 2/4 fail in a similar fashion.

We're thinking of going with a Kontronic or Jetti Spin ESC instead.

Could it be the BEC. is shuting down?

No BEC on the 110HV

ErichF,
I know there is no BECs. on any HV ECSs. You ether must be using a rx. batt. pack or an add-on BEC. BECs. can be a pain if it won't supply all the amps. you need to run your electronics, digital servos use a lot of amps.! Jest wondering.

No, this setup is nothing like that.

This bird's got a Micropilot MP2128 heli autopilot on board with a battery just for the servos and one 3S lipo for avionics, which also powers the RX.

Besides, to be more clear, the motor shut down, not the electronics. The pics below show the autopilot system prior to the electric conversion:
