i use a calibrated tool to determine height, width and stuff like that, mi eyeballs i really do so i cannot claim too much accuracy but for the most part it works. course i have easy access to most of what i model too.

Hi Copter Doctor

Here is my 1st attempt... Used brake line and TIG welded v braze... Since it is galvanized a fume hood is required...

Turned out pretty close... I used the calibarated "eyeball" you suggested and referenced the Bell diagrams from "BarracudaHockey"...

This helicopter had a set of skids that are different from all reference photos they have must less "bow" in them... I also did the 10 degree back angle on the vertical supoorts to be accurate...

Need to clean-up the welds, trim the forward angle (make them long to accomidate the welding process), fill the holes, and paint...

Update

This is the interior frame for the attachment of the landing skids to the fusalage and pod structure. Ready to trim the toes...

Suprised by how light these skids are...

So If you dont have a tig welder, what the best method to join the landing gear?

Hi Folks

Here is a video of just the strobes...

I will post a video with the landing light... This is so bright that it is difficult to look at directly... The wife said the tail light and landing light is irritating and annoying...

Hi FBoss

You can "braze" instead of TIG welding, but my brazing is really bad... The guy the did the welding (30 mins) thought it was a fun project and I had to force money into his hand...

Update

I have read several post about the "helicommand rigid" system to convert to a flybarless rotor head...

At $75 an ounce I made the plunge and ordered one from Esprit Models...

I am very impressed with Esprit Models delivery turnaround, fast...

HI HS10

I recommend that the sensitivity of Helicommand should be
zero until the height becomes larger than 80 cm~100cm.
Because, if not zero at the lift off, the helicopter
will slide unwillingly to the direction of tail rotor power
(like a fixed pitch helicopter).
So, I recommend a 2-position or 3-position switch for the
sensitivity. Here is a page of my friend's micro 4-blade
heli with Helicommand rigid (but usage as a Helicommand A):

Hi K2-tokyo

Thanks for the advice... I was trying to decide between using a 3 position switch or a slide...

It looks like the 3 position switch is better to ensure zero gain on takeoff...

A torch with MAPP gas and silver solder is what I use, though a welder would be handy!

Hi Folks... UPDATE

Here is my mounting solution for the Helicommand in my Scale OH-58A... The bracket is designed to minimize vibration and does not touch the fiberglass fuselage... The bracket is adjustable to ensure that the CCD imager is centered over the aperture for a good view of the ground...

??? Experienced Heicommand Owners, do you see any issues ???
