Managed to do some hovering with my HB F/P heli in my garage today. Very nerve racking but exciting at the same time! Hovering approx. 12"-15" off the ground for 20-30 seconds at a time. Using training gear and will be for a while yet I think. Before it comes off I believe you need to be able to hover steadily, comfortably along with directional control. Guess it depends how relaxed you feel along with the amount of cash in your wallet. I also have dumb thumbs, thus training gear. Finally figured out that as the battery depletes, control of the tail also diminishes. Always kept tring to trim out for this. Doesn't work. Quit flying and recharge. Alright: back to the garage!

thats the problem with a motor driven tail dash8man. I never used a training gear I just went very slow you'll find which I did after flying a friends cppro with TG that it just doesn't fly the same with it on. The biggest difference is I have a whole stack of wooden blades and spindles. I ended up repairing the blades and spindles to save some cash. Back to the TG what I mean is I think electric helis are sometimes underpowered and especially a large TG makes the heli wobble a bit making it actually harder to control. Thats just my 2 cents flying without one can be quite expensive.

I figure once I can get off the ground quickly into a hover I'll take the training gear off. Guess everyones skill level is different but at this point in order to feel comfortable flying, I nee the TG. At low head speed, I'm sure the TG is pulling and yanking the heli around. That's what it looks like anyway. Once up with more power it seems steadier than near the ground.
Hope to upgrade to a King 2 or Belt CP shortly. Ok. Back to the garage! Cheers.

jaghobbies go now cheapest price on king. But they don't sell the CP I like the king because them and helidirect usually one or the other will have parts. Now go have fun with that FP till you must have a CP.

I believe they are mostly 72MHZ and crystals are spaced enough KHZ to keep from interfering with others. So Its a tossup which crystals you'll get. But Nowadays crystal changes are really cheap.

my daughters lama just happen to fall on 33

That is why I went to a 2.4GHz spectrum radio. Futaba constantly changes frequency a little at a time but like in Milliseconds going through all channels and back again. And my RX and TX are matched with a digital signature so the receiver only recognizes signals from my receiver.

Aint technology grand.

Had another good session with the HB F/P. I haven't really crashed yet. The problem is that occasionally a garage wall will come out of no where and try to dismantle the heli! Apparently plastic and cement don't get along. Training gear has prevented any damage. An HB King 2 looks good for next heli. Will get a brushless motor/ESC for it as advised in this forum. What size pinion would be good to start out with on the King? 9T? Cheers.

9 tooth is an excellent place to start. I like the 3900 motor it gives you some room to grow with and drops right in. Be sure to pull it apart once in a while and lube the bearings. Tri flow works grate for this.

I started with an 8t on the hdx300 3800rpm it was slow and mushy would be great for someone learning but your past that a little more headspeed will be good a 9 is fine.(I'm a poet and didn't realize it)I am running a 10 and its a powerful performer. But that may be a little too much strain on the plastic hard to keep blades tracked.

With regards blade tracking

With the stock head and woodies I would get it as close as you can with the half turn you are limited to and then I would swap the blades to the opposite side this would usually get them right on for a little while at least.

I fixed my tracking problem 15-20 flights later no adjustments still gonna get those turnbuckles though for perfect tracking I got them down to plane in there tracks but they are maybe a 1/2 blade width off. And 1/2 a turn is too much. the way to get them back in at high headspeed you ask?
