e-E-Sky Honey Bee- Lama- Belt CP- E-Smart > Bare Bones kit vs. RTF

Well, when I finally become proficient on my HB FP heli I'll be looking to move on to a CCPM machine, specifically an HB King 2 or Belt CP. Although the RTF setup for my Honeybee FP is great, for a ccpm machine, would it be better to get a Bare Bones kit and buy radio, gyro, etc. separately? Is it likely to fly better if setup is done correctly? Price is certainly a factor. RTF price on a King 2 for approx. $115.00 and for a Belt CP $145.00. Hard to overlook that but I guess you have to in order to go to the next level with proper gear. I guess the main advantage over the RTF is you can get a better quality radio.
Also, and I hate to mention the "T" word here, but is the T-Rex really that much better and worth the extra dollars when compared to the King or Belt CP? I here it flys better but...... who knows? Appreciate the help here guys. Cheers.

Bill.

When people say the TREX they forget the stuff needed to fly it.
kit with brushless is $240
need a $50 battery
$200+ radio
$100 gyro
$60 in servos.
Thats $650 I personally couldn't afford that up front And you don't have a way to charge the batteries yet either. I am pushing that limit now on my king2 though. But the king needs another $50 up front for brushless setup and the radio isn't that great programmables make life easy and if your gonna buy a new radio get a 2.4GHz its just the right thing to do. I would have to suggest the BeltCP you can get a brushless setup from the start and upgrade the radio later, but its too big a heli for me. So I have the king2 but $50 worth of brushless motor and esc will get you a year of flying easy with the king.

just a sample of how the money added up for me
$75 barebones kit
$25 HDX300 3800rpm brushless motor
$25 30 amp ELE speed controller
$100 gy240 gyro
$30 battery
$200 Futaba T6EX
$10 1 servo already had 3
$75 FMA cellpro charger
$100 CNC head
total $640

Tryan, I'm glad I didn't buy the HBK2 now if you have that kind of money into it... I figured you were about 300 buck for the whole deal with the KING...

yeah but costs like a good radio a good charger is worth it and a $100 in CNC really wasn't necessary. But Im the only kid on my block with purple stuff as far as that goes Im the only kid in town with a heli.

Great info tryan as usual I am even cheaper than tryan and right now have even less disposible income, like 0. Let's say for example you wanna go REALLY, REALLY cheap. A better radio is highly recommended but as much as I want one I just can't do it. I can tell you the stock TX is a lot better than the stock Eflite radio , 10 times better. I am still using it and actually like its simplicity but it has very limited functions. If you buy a barebones King for example For say $70 bucks, you will have to get a TX, 4 servos, a gyro, a motor, an ESC, a receiver, it adds up quick like tryan said.
If you are not sure you are going to be in this hobby for a long time the RTF has everything you need EXCEPT the motor and speed control which will not last long.
So far I spent 150. on the RTF kit
50 bucks on Brushless motor and ESC
60 bucks on telebee HH gyro
50 bucks on CNC head ( not neccesary)
20 bucks on JR tail servo
17 bucks x 4 cheap li-pos( had 3 x 30 buck li-pos already
13 bucks hobbywing UBEC
Thats $ 411. bucks
I spent more than that in ONE month when I had the Eflite Blade CP, I have had the King for like 3 months now I think. My prices are not including blades and spindles and stuff like that but it goes to show you how cheap you can go if you want to. I am using the stock ESKY li-po charger and it works alright for what it is. I also put rechargable ni-mh bats in the TX so I don't have to keep buying alkalines. I'm not saying what I have done is the best way but it is one way to go. Often if you try to go too cheap you end up buying TWICE, that ain't cheap either, buy as much quality as you can afford if you think you will be in the hobby for more than a Month.

Right if you take the tx and charger out of the list you got no money in the heli to speak of. I just quickly jumped to your bottom line and almost choked....

Slider, The first month I had the King I spent 200 bucks and that was it. Brushless motor and ESC, and it flew great, still $50. bucks less than the Blade CP PRO and ten times better

I know we all paid out dues, and eflite with the blade cp poo... I have to say it was a great experience but a bad investment at the same time.... It was funny watching everyone on the forum trying everything I and many others had already done figuring it would fly better , again as many others had already done... and it still was a poo poo.......

I'm getting close to the 600 mark including the MD 500 fuse but keep in mind I already had a charger But on the bright side I love this heli to death and would do it all over again

Belt cp

Belt CP with Brushless, ESC, Gyro and servos. 130(deal of the day)
Upgrade to gy240(100)
Had 4 hs55's laying around (60)
Had Airtronics RD 8000 (279)
3 batteries (140)
1 charger (53.00)

You add it up. I didnt really spend much to get back into the hobby.

If i had to start all over i would buy the rtf Bely Cp and upgrade the gyro. Get many batteries and a good charger. If you crash, get it back together as cheaply as possible anf fly it again.

We need video proof around here.

My friend Mark had the regular Blade CP and I had the PRO. I enjoyed flying the regular CP better than the PRO. They advertise the PRO as being this 3D marvel yet it still had the crappy brushed motor and the Rate gyro, you had to upgrade the **** out of it and still end up with the motor driven tail. I wouldn't be bitchen so much if it was a 100 or 150. bucks cheaper.

Buying bare bones makes since if you already have the components laying around.

When your a noob you probably dont have a substantial inventory and thats when RTF comes in handy.

I would suggest RTF over barebones, in this case.

To be "set up like a bowling pin", all you need right off the bat is:

RTF King 2: $165
Brushless motor/esc: $55

So, $220, and you're good to go. First practical upgrade, IMO, would be a proper charger and an extra lipo - call that $115.

Still, only $335 in.

Now, parts, parts, and more parts. This is when you get a barebones. Rob the BB of parts to keep flying while saving for a proper transmitter.

IMO...

Pumping your fist and yelling, "COME ON!!!" does not increase battery charge rate.

Heres my take on rtf vs barebones. Barebones is 70.00 not bad. But for another 60.00 you can buy a rtf honeybee king II for 130.00. Yes you heard right 130.00 Heres is the website for the hbk http://www.rchelicoptershop.com/cat...opter-p-53.html

For 130 dollars to thrash, not bad. And the parts are very inexpensive and changing belts is a breeze if you've done it before. I have read the reviews on the belt cp and would rather go with the king versus the belt cp. Good luck, Jimmi

Wow, where does that site ship from?
It looks like the heli is 10 bucks cheaper but all the other parts and pieces and upgrades are a little more expensive.
What's your take? I was just about to place my big order from helidirect dot com.

Going broke and OK with it.

Stay away from that website chewbacchi

I fell for that I have an account there $66 dollars to ship just another E-business website. Buy from real heli people like HD or jag.
