Radio - Futaba FASST > 14Mz 2.4Ghz... module based only or possible new native system?

Does the 14MZ need a software update for the FASST module? I noticed the 12FG does.

It will definately need one unless this was already addressed a few months ago when the latest firmware went public (I doubt it though).

The 14Mz and all other Mz radios for that matter rely heavily on the software to process, encode and transmit the correct signal out. I've been told the stock HF Module is nothing more than a signal amplifier as the 14mz has the capability of generating the exact frequency that is programmed through the radio.

power output of 14MZ with 2.4G module

Does anyone have the data of captioned? A friend of mine in Japan told me there are different versions of 2.4 G module with different output power for different regions in order to comply the particular regulations. It does affect the range of how long it can transmit.

Interesting you ask.

Actually I was reading a bunch of german heli forums yesterday about exactly that because usually what is enforced by german laws ends up reflecting in the whole EU in a short time.

There were alot of concerned pilots because, as it seems, a new law will be applied beggining June 2008 that forbits the use of any 2.4Ghz system that broadcasts over 10mW continuously (100mw spikes are allowed though). Old 100mw systems may continue to operate but new products are obliged to have an output of only 10mW.

As it happens and contrary to JR (they had to incorporate a switch in their modules - 10mW or 100mW), Futaba cracked the nut by hopping channels every 8ms so their transmission ends up being a continous torrent of 100mw spikes!! It seems that because of this, futaba has a green light using FASST in Germany.

Robbe (European Futaba Rep) has conducted a series of range tests and as it seems, the 14mz module is capable of controlling an aircraft without glitches up to 3000 meters (that is ruffly 2 miles). Graupner (European JR Rep) has also conducted its own tests on its 10mw systems and shows a hassle free operation at a distance of at least 900 meters (around 1000 feet).

So, even if something different happens in a few months, 10mW is already more than enough for our application, don't you think?

I wouldn't mind at all if the futaba's 100mW come through though

Just received mine. I thought the module would be bulkier than what it actually is. Doesn't look bad but an integrated antenna would be allot cleaner.

So it is confirmed the 12FG is in fact module based and not native?

Cannot use my module on my 14mz because they did not release the software update that you need to use it.So I spent 400.00 for something I can't use.

Tony, directly from the Futaba Radios Direct support forum on RCU here is the post I am referring to about the confirmed non-availability of a native 2.4GHz 12FG:

That's a shame. Those kind of issues should have been anticipated long ago.

that is kinda crap...when is the software suppose to be out, kinda a big oversight?

If you dont succeed the first time, try and try again. With heli's keep on trying!

I would expect a software release during the next two weeks or so. I was informed that robbe would get the modules in the first week of January and you can bet your a$$ that they won't release it unless there is a software patch available. Heck, they might even do theirs like they already did in the past.

On Flying Giants, Mark from Great Planes told me it was supposed to be on the FFC already. Obviously, it's not, but I think that's an oversight, rather than it not being available to be posted. I'm sure that'll be corrected by Monday.
