Who here has tried adding shims to the inner swahs balls for more cyclic? I read on Eric Larsons sight,

http://www.ericlarsonrc.com/Heli/Eq...atus_Update.htm

that adding a .038 shim to the pitch control balls on the inner ring of the cyclic will greatly increase the cyclic throw nad really make the machine snappy.

I am pretty comfy with my Ion-X2 but felt I needed just a bit more pop in the cyclic. I found some .020 shims and decided I would give it a shot after having read the warnings in the link posted above.

Let me tell you now, HOLY CRAP!!!! I almost stuffed her bad but was able to pull out of it. It took a little getting used to but now I relly like it. It is exactly where I want it now and she sings. I could not image what it would be like with .038 shims. Try it if you like, but I would recomend you go a couple mistakes high before you get to whacky.

There is actually longer ball-links to buy so you dont have to use shims now, I have them on all of mine, dont remember the partnumber off-hand though.

Watch out for outer bolts being too long though, they will eat away your ball-links in a wim then.

Made the same mod on my Fury Extreme. I always wondered if the ball might pull out of the swash plate (during very hard 3D) due to the fewer threads on the shank of the ball being threaded into the swash plate. Well, I've flown over 26 gallons through it since the mod, and still going strong. No worries about it anymore. Dave Dahl.

my extreme came with longer ball studs, and the ball link rubbed on the inside of the swash's outer ring. Kind of frustrating. It rubbed a bit, but it seems fine.

Will you get the same result with their new bell cranks?

I don't think so. The new bell cranks will give you a faster mechanical inputs. The shim trick will physically give you more throw to the blades. With out the shims or the longer balls on the inner swash, the new bell crank will only help you get to your limit quicker. Does that make sense?

Yes, I can tell the swash is faster just watching it on the bench. This is with the same servos that were taken out of my older stratus. The swash is now traveling faster and farther with the same servo movement as before. Gonna test fly this weekend

Iam talking about the new bellcranks here. They effectively make your servos faster.

been there

was real nice. actually felt like probably the best machine I ever flew. Furyx on a diet, shims under the balls, Stratus flybar cage, 710 SB, 95mm V paddles, OMI-Cline-Spec w/MP5. short description= SWEET

However those shims do compromise the design limits of loads thread depth etc. so I'd keep an eye on them as part of your normal maint.

Dude, saw him not to long ago. He's just working and hanging out with the family. He's truly a great asset to our hobby and I hope he rejoins us one day.

Like many of us, I had the pleasure to have met him at IRCHA's past. He is one hell of a guy and my favorite pilot to watch. I hope to see him again someday. I have modeled my carreer path after his and he was a great inspiration to me even though he is younger than I am.
